I’ll be honest. I was really not sure I’d be able to put together a flatbed that wasn’t silly looking.

I’m really happy with how this is coming together.

The front is on stands because I’m also getting ready to start tubbing. The stands are far enough back so there’s not full weight on the rear suspension either in these pics.

Unfortunately, I’ll most likely have to put some removable mudflaps on.

I’m thinking about grabbing a pair of Mack flaps from work.

Makes sense, rock crawling is the only reason I’d heard of people installing them.

Alternatively, ability to turn the fan on/off at water crossings means no worries about the fan blade deflecting into the rad.

Looks good! You going to chop the frame rails? They look to be limiting your departure angle.

    Ha!

I am. The frame will be flush with the flatbed.

I have a piece of 3x4 to miter into the HD crossmember that Jon made for me a couple of years ago. The Crossmember was the determining factor for the bed length.

I have a 2” receiver tube and shackle mounts to put through / on that 3x4 as well.

Gotcha, that will work nicely. I doubt you would ever even hit the frame rails on anything unless you were at a 50° or better angle haha. So you are keeping the frame stock ish to be able to put back on the bed and bumper if needed?

Oh no. The bed is for sale. The bumper is sold. No going back.

Once I cut the frame off flush with the flatbed, the truck will be 15.5” shorter than it was. Including the removal of the HC bumper of course.
