Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

For those of you with rust, where exactly is the spot (I can't tell from the picture in the first post)? Can you see it looking down from under the hood? I have an RCI skid plate, would that block me from seeing it?

 

This is definitely a big oversight by Toyota. Took care of the mod last weekend.

 

I've said this in here before, but my '99 Taco has the A/C drain in the exact same spot as my '17. So it seems Toyota hasn't changed that design in at least 18 years. My 99 has no rust in that area either

 

But the “gee wiz”, “I did a thing” self gratification of doing a DIY project outweighs common sense.

I know I may just be dumb but is that 5/8 inch the inner or outer diameter of the hose?

 

Inner I believe. Just ask NAPA for the 5/8 hose and you'll get the right one ( it'll be printed on the outside of the hose ). I'm not sure if other competitors would have it not, but I would think so.

Thanks guys, I'm going to get this done today. I'm kind of scared to see the rust after 5300 miles, especially since I'm down here in Florida

I'm also wondering what that patch of rubber type material is on the frame right under the AC drain pipe. Anybody know?

 

Not sure the hose is but I zip tied my extended AC hose away from it just to be safe.

 

Funny because a shit load of cars that I’ve serviced have problems with frame or subframe rot from the AC draining right on them. I always told myself this would be the first thing I would do to a brand new vehicle. Well I got a brand new vehicle and totally forgot!!! Luckily I only have about 3k miles on it! I’ll be taking care of this over the weekend. Thanks!

 

Quick question, does Fluid Film be another alternative to this problem? I did this mod but my concern is that its pulling and pressuring the little OEM drain hose that sticks out from the truck. Not really sure what this OEM hose is being held from the inside, but my fear is while driving bouncing taking holes etc will eventually do some damages and perhaps yank the oem drain hose out.

Any thoughts or second alternative other than the A/C drain mod??

 

As long as you keep the hose zip tied in place away from heat sources as best as possible, you'll be fine.
