A lot of the lower weight oils like 0w20 or 5w20 is all to meet CAFE and emissions std. they are trying to squeak every last bit out of them they can to meet these std. They aren't getting any easier on the regulations either. There is a reason why so many sedans these days and even SUVs are hybrids to bring the CAFE avg up for a manufacturer.

But switching to a 5w30 or around that has no ill effects.

Neither is he. He curently works for Cat. But still getting royalties. He is the one that showed me that napa oil was the same as what i was running but half the price.

Manufactures are required to increase efficiency 25% across the board by 2027 per the EPA. You can expect to see more crazy things happening to increase economy in the next few years. I'm super exciting to see what new tech the 4th gen brings to the table. Hopefully some diesel hybrid turbo craziness that makes gobs of low end torque and get 50 mpg! Super stoked for the future

I used to run castrol, its the same recipe as napa oil, and black label. Just labeled differently.

I thought NAPA was Valvoline or Penzoil. NAPA gold filters are my fav. though relabeled cheap versions of WIX XP

Unless we really start putting more infrastructure behind diesel you won't see them here like you do overseas. Also easier to meet "OUR" emission std on gasoline rather than Diesel. I am on your side though.

I think you would see a Hydrogen Tacoma before a Diesel.

Yeah I run the high end castrol stuff above the Std sythentic.

Also Castrol std oil IMO is better than Valvoline std. just seeing what both companies put into their oils as far as technology and engineering. I use to be a Valvoline man but they got cheap to meet price points.

Yea yea, I get it, we aren't getting a diesel. But the fact still remains that efficiency MUST increase by bare minimum of 25% across the board by 2027. We are either going to see some really cool ass shit, or some really dumb shit to hit those numbers. I can't wait.

I knew I should have never said "diesel". Stupid trigger for too many of you.

there are a lot of subsidies and extra credit points they get too even if they don't meet the std. Like the whole flex fuel shit. Manufacturers got extra credit points because they made the gas guzzlers flex fuel so it helped the CAFE %. It's all a bureaucratic song and dance.

I'd love to see diesels here like they are over seas. I love rolling coal. I think it's one of the best internal combustion engines ever made. Just hate that the US kinda neuters the ability to make them a reality.

The flex fuel BS happen years before the EPA mandate. These companies WILL NOT be able to sell vehicles in the US if they don't meet this requirement. This also applies to the 18 wheelers, just look at the leaps and bounds companies like Freightliner, Volvo-mack, and peterbuilt have made. Shits about to get cool in the personal automobile class

The CAFE standards were enacted in 1975 so yeah and ummmmm way before flex fuel. Also emissions and all that was a few years before by the EPA. I wouldn't call what the Big rigs are doing cool or leaps and bounds a lot of truckers hate the newer stuff because it neutered the trucks as far as power, driveability and upkeep.

Company drivers hate it, owner operators look for every possible way to save money. I witnessed an ear to ear smile of a trucker who bought tires that saved him 1 mpg. This shit is a big deal

The MPGs aren't coming from emission stds tightening though they are loosing MPGs from that. Where they are getting MPGs from is like you said tires, aero, weight savings, gearing etc. Owner Operators have always been about that or for as long as I've known some. Same goes with bigger freight companies too they want to keep costs down to maximize on profits as much as possible. It's all economics.
