headlight moisture

i bought a pair of black out headlight, and now it has moisture inside. how do i get that moisture out and from not coming back. i know some say to open it up and clean it but im trying to stay away from that. any info will help

 

I'm assuming you bought these off eBay? That's your mistake, but we've all had them. Your only options are to break it open clean it out and re-seal with some quality sealant or contact the eBay seller and say their product did not work properly and leaks.

 

Uninstall the headlights and have them sit in your house till they clear up. Once clear, grab some RTV and reseal the out sides of them. (I used grey permatex). Besure to get it in all the places where it looks like water could get in.

Yeah I wanted until mine dried out and just resealed it on the drivers side. The passenger side hasnt had any issues yet (knock on wood).

 

All the aftermarket ones need to be sealed it seams!

 

Tip: To dry them out quicker, you can use silica gel packets....

 

Anyone ever try sticking a vacuum hose through the opening for the bulb?

 

I just put them in the dryer for 10 minutes on fluff....



...and back to reality,,, if you're in a hurry use a hair dryer on a low setting. Note that this drying process may not remove all of the fog "residue" on the inside. Even with drying and sealing, you _may_ still have to open 'em up to clean it off the lens.

 

x2...I had this problem in an old car. I used a hair drier to dry it out, then I drilled a small drain hole in the bottom (where the state inspector wouldn't notice), but I'd recommend you reseal them properly with some silicone sealant or something. Something should be done though because it greatly reduces the headlight's effectiveness, and you could fail inspection if you're in a state the requires it.

Yea this is a b@$%$! My passenger headlight had moisture in it so I got rid of it with a silica pack, but when I washed it again it got moisture in there, so obviously it has a leak.

Now my driver light is doing it too.

I am driving around witha truck that looks like it is crying this sucks!
