    Always wondered why you have to oil those things. Makes absolutely no sense to me.


    Then again, owning a "cold" air intake that gets its air from the hot engine makes no sense to me either.

    Doesn’t that tar paper on the floor help? Figured that combined with the mass backing in the carpet help against sound isolation. I’d be worried about the doors and ceiling and the cab walls.

    Like I said I only use the K&N cause I got it for free & only on the street. I must be buying some kind of premium filter cause the last one I bought was $26 which the cost doesn't matter to me. Brand doesn't really matter to me either, I buy the one that has the most thickest/restrictive looking element.

    The oil is supposed to help catch the finer particles. CAI are BS for stock engines.

    Usually most have a orange foam material that holds it all together. If thats the case, Theyre all made by fram no matter the box. $13 dollars at napa, etc.

    That's why I buy the WIX, it's OEM style, I don't do cheapo fram stuff unless it's going on an old Jeep cause then who cares it's gonna break anyway.

    Hard to mess up an air filter imo. Out east, we dont have much dirt in the air to begin with. I have 10k on my current one and it still looks new. If I was in the desert, my thinking may change.

    Oh but they can. The cheaper ones are exactly that, the filter elements are cheap. Still better than any "high flow" filter when used in the dirt though.

    you should've seen all the crap I had to clean out of my air box, even from behind the filter from back when I had the Pro Dry aFe one in...never again

    I way overdid mine!! Probably the most significant improvement areas were the exterior door panels and the back wall of the cab. Next was probably the roof.

    I believe it. Anytime I get home from playing in dirt or sand, I open lid on the air box, then blow out all the crap in there with the filter still in the slot. Then I take out the fiilter & blow out all the crap (reverse from air flow).

    The fine stuff can even get through a stock filter element, no way I will ever drive my truck through fine dirt with a "high flow" intake ever again. That's the reason I sold the K&N system that came on the truck, did it once & never again.

    yeah I could take that aFe out after a dusty trail and beat on it and watch the dirt come out of both sides, not good. With the OEM paper style filters, I can take them out and smack them and the dirt only comes out the front...not the back. That's proof enough for me which filter is best.

    I bought into the whole 'better airflow better performance' marketing, ignoring the fact that you can't have better airflow without sacrificing filtration. I'd rather have better filtration

    Agreed. The performance filters are "needed" when you're heavily modding for performance but not needed for trucks like ours. You can run the high flow cone filters offroad if you run a prefilter(s) on them but they don't make prefilters for high flow drop ins for stock air boxes.

    Before I sold my K&N system I, took off the K&N cone & ran a Monster Flow filter on it. We were a dealer from them at the shop. It had a oiled foam prefilter. That thing worked pretty good filtering out fine dirt but it was a pain in the ass to clean so I ditched that too & bought a stock intake.
