That’s terrible. You buy something you like and at first it seems great and you love it, then the disappointment comes! I kept going back and forth for two years until I got my truck. I though the sales person was going to get sick of me but was always pleasant and very accommodating.
You should review the details of the T-SB 0062-18 document because the warranties for different items vary and some go pretty far. I’m pretty sure your ‘16 may still be covered under warranty for the tranny update. They can at least reflash it for you. Just don’t go in talking about forums!

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. That should reset it back to like it was just after the TSB flash was done.

You can view the T-SB here: https://m.imgur.com/a/SlXwY2S. It shouldn’t need to be reflashed. Just disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. You can see all of the T-SBs here:https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/list-of-t-sbs-etc.562671/

I am going to try this for sure. I wanted it documented with dealer before I do that though. I have a good relationship with my local dealer thankfully. My truck is going in for repair next month as the replacement power steering pump is leaking also after 2k miles. This truck is a nightmare honestly.

I would definitely let the dealer know you’re still having trouble. They need to track these issues.

Sooo, 60 days later after TSB. Initially after the TSB, I noticed some quirks and things seemed different but still quirky. I was driving today and thought to myself, wow, this thing drives so nice! Then I got to thinking about it, and I realized the truck has great manners now- so much so that I forgot about the quirks. It must have learned/adapted over time, but it really drives super nice now, in city and highway to include going up/down hills/grades.

Hate to say it but its most likely going to start driving bad again. I have had multiple things suddenly (and some very unexpectedly) start making the truck drive great again, but it always reverts back at some point. Here are some of the things that have, but not always, caused my truck to immediately start driving great, only to revert back at some point.
    - Switching gas grade.
    - Replacing rear diff fluid. wtf?
    - One time just lifting it up on a lift to rotate tires and then putting it back down again. wtf?
    - unplugging the battery for 30 min
    - Clearing the learning via techstream
    - Drove great after an oil change. wtf?
    - Drives great after a reflash, but that usually because the learning got cleared.

Been dealing with this since 2016 and have pretty much given up on it. Drivability is so damn temperamental with this thing! But what i can say after all of this is that no matter what suddenly causes the truck to start driving great it ALWAYS reverts back. I have resorted to resetting the learning every 5k miles or so, or as soon as it becomes unbearable to drive.

Don’t you kind of wish they had the ECT default to ON? So you don’t have to remember to turn it on yourself!

ETC does not really fix anything for me so i never use it. its does give a bit more power but the shifting, stumbles, and all that junk is still there

That's interesting...my dealership told me atleast 300 miles for the truck to fully adjust to the update although I noticed a difference almost emediately. That said it's now been just over 1,500 miles and the eratic shifting is back

This is a known issue across ALL 3rd gen ATs nation wide and any service writer who's worth a sh!t will just write it up and send it straight to service. If they give you any resistance mention you know it's a known issue and tell them you're on Tacoma World (trust me they know of this forum) and you know about the TSB 0062-18. If they take it for a spin and tell you they can't replicate the problem I'd find another dealership. They obviously have no interest in helping with the issue.

I can say it got smoother than it was,Throttle was more responsive its not perfect but ill take the difference now.i have to test and drive it more to observe.for now im a happy Camper.hopefully stays this way..

I have complained about hesitation and stumbles at times, but the dealer could never duplicate it with a test drive.
I took my truck in for an oil change/tire rotation with a print out of the TSB in hand.
They installed the TSB and my truck drives like a different truck, my wife even noticed it when she drove it.
It is much smoother with no "power shifts" around 35 mph. Even the miles per gallon increased a little.

While I am sure this isn't the norm, I have had a SIGNIFICANT increase in the MPGs since this update. I had the TSB update performed yesterday, and while it is certainly early in the game... the results have been profound. First off, the truck has been a completely different animal. It's been more responsive and funner to drive. Additionally, the improvement in fuel economy has been signifant. In the month I have owned the truck before the update I averaged a pitiful 16 mpg (even making substantial effort to trying to drive more economically). Since the update, I have yet to make a trip anywhere, averaging less than 20mpg city, and 22mpg highway. The difference has been amazing so far

Let's see, I had the TSB at 10k miles and I'm at 14.5k now.

37,500 miles on my truck at TSB flash.
    MPG was showing 20.0 + before, now it's 21.0 +.

TSB plus a couple of tanks of higher octane gas have made a huge difference for me. I did the TSB, and then followed someone's (but I can't remember who) recommendation to drive a few tanks of 89 Octane, which I did. I'm back to 87octane gas now, but the improvement is still there. No more ECT mode at all.
