I'm ordering my lift/wheels/tires today, could someone please double check my research?

Hello! I've lurked here for a while. Last week I totaled my 2018 TRD Offroad (7k miles!) and my insurance is paying out well over my payoff. I've done a lot of research and i'm looking to squeeze 285's without a cab mount chop by making up with the offset and lift.

The lift that i've chosen is the Icon stage 3:

I may take the tubular route since it's cheaper, and i'm not very sure if it's necessary?

The wheels i've chosen have a 0mm offset and 4.45 backspace:

The tires will be 285/75r16 BFgoodrich:

I see there are now two tread types, regular and DT. I'm guessing DT are supposed to be longer lasting as they cost more.

I figured the offset combined with the lift will put the tires far enough away from the cab mount to almost eliminate rubbing, but wanted to double check with you guys first. I am new to this and it seems most of you have a lot more experience in this than me. This is a major purchase and I want to make sure that I am doing it right before pulling the trigger. If I have to, I may buy 1/2" spacers as well, but i'd like to avoid that. I would greatly appreciate any input and if I may be missing something, please let me know!!

Too much shit in the bed and the truck got tired and decided to take a nap on its back!

Nothing exciting! We had a snow storm when I went camping. On the way back home I caught a patch of ice going downhill, went into a spin and rolled down an embankment. Airbags deployed, a few windows broke and the A pillar was crushed. A lot of damage on the front end and a motor mount broke as well. I was the only person in the car, thank god, because a branch went through the rear window and impaled clear through the airbag.

What's even more crushing to me than it only having 7k miles was that it was my first time using my CVT tent . I'm okay though, and material objects are replaceable, so I'm just trying to keep my head up and move forward. Most of my aftermarket was salvageable, aside from the side rails on the Prinsu roof rack. The KBvoodoo bedrack held very well, but i'm sure that's in part because of the tent absorbing impact.

 

So, you are buying lift/wheels/tires for your totaled truck??

Why dont you want to do CMC? I know on 2nd gens it's a must to alleviate rubbing.

Extra cost, and im worried about it effecting the integrity of the frame. If I can just have the right wheel/tire/lift setup and not have rubbing anyways, I'd much rather take that route

 

Lift won't help with rubbing since it has to do with width of the tires. There have been a couple claims of no rubbing but they have all come back that they did in fact rub. You will rub, there is no avoiding it especially if you go offroad, backup, or hit some mall curbs. You can CMC like thousands have or go with a 255/85.

I would aslo avoid Icon, their products have struggled and they have some of the worst customer service

All of my buddies have grown to dislike Icon over the years. I would lean towards King or Fox. Not sure if they sell kits though

 

Whatttttt!? That's heartbreaking to hear, I had read that they are one of the best lifts on the market and hadn't seen anything bad about them yet. Are there any comparable lifts that are very good quality and replace the same components? I had eliminated Toytec and OME for quality reasons. Wanted to stay mid travel, long travel is just too much and the cost of the mid travel is right about where im comfortable at. I certainly don't want anything with spacers. I'm really glad that I posted this thread, I would have been very upset If I spent that sort of money on a lift that failed me

 

I blame it on those Kevlars. Horrible choice for an Off-Road vehicle. But since you don't have winter tires on it, I now blame you!

K02's are a great choice, but have the worst rain performance.

For that reason, I went with the Duratrac's that have better rain rating, and also have the 3 peak snowflake designation. Personal choice of course, as I wanted a C Load tire...

 

Midtravel is kind of a buzzword, you either have long travel or you don't. OME makes a decent product and have have seen little to no complaints about them and they have good customer service.

ADS, King, Fox, OME are reputable. I'm biased towards one of these but you can decide.

For a $3500 Icon Stage 3 you can get a King 2.5 w/ resi all the way around, a Deaver full leaf pack and SPC light racing UCA and even save a few Benjamins.

 

Ah man, now i'm going to have to do more research. Thanks for the information. I only do pretty mild off roading and the ride is still important to me, which is a reason that icon appealed to me so much. I don't know the difference between the quality of the products that those 3 companies make or if any of them have any real perks over each other. I will have to put my purchase off a few days until I really have the time to look at it, but thanks a lot again for the information!

Something else to consider is that Icon is a digressive shock while the others are all progressive!

I also recommend reseaching UCA, do you really need uniballs or delta joints? Consider a moog joint
