School me on the oil filter and housing. It looks like this is a plastic housing? You have to drop the skid plate and remove the cap on the housing and replace the oil filter? Is it worth while to replace the plastic housing with a metal housing?

What have been your experiences? I must admit I am not a super fan of relocated oil filters. But assume Toyota engineers did the right thing??

Nothing wrong with the composite oil filter. Get the proper tool to remove and install it. Don't over tighten.

Yup, skid must come off. Luckily, it's only 4 bolts and has hooks to hang on the radiator support.

Even with an access hole, spin-ons or cartridges will make a mess where it is easier to just pull the skid.

Yes follow this. I had these parts in my new filter’s box. I didn’t know what that was so I just poured oil everywhere when I took the housing off.

Also don’t be cheap and make sure to buy the tool. You can’t get it off by hammering the fins. They break off if you do that. But in my defense I’m pretty sure the dealer put mine back on with an impact. I had to use the tool and a short breaker bar to get mine off.

    Ordered the tool.
And am considering the aluminum housing down the road.

You wouldn't happen to know the model number by any chance? Looks like a good idea.

Cut a hole in the stock deflector.
Used scrap metal in the garage to make a cover.
Unscrew one small bolt and attach the tube as described above to drain oil. I’ve eliminated the lock nut. It doesn’t rattle or move even without the bolt installed.
    Easy, fast and no mess.
