My new 2018 Limited has it. So far I'm not a fan. Does it really do anything beneficial except make it sound like a 'fast and furious' truck? I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I've always heard that unless you are getting more air IN, less air restriction going OUT is not any benefit. Anyone???

I doubt just having the cat back exhaust (I guess that's what is referenced) would do much as to HP or MPGs. I've got one along with a TRD CAI and I see just a tiny bit of improvement but that's really hard to measure and could just be in my head. But, I like how they sound and look so I'm okay with that.

The CIA and urd cat back are only butt dyno mods. Adds nothing to the actual performance of the truck. Just shiny toys.

Could the system be 'quieted up' with a new stock style muffler? That's the part that bugs me the most. Was on the interstate for a couple hours yesterday and had the adaptive cruise on. When I would get out from behind a slow vehicle it would downshift to get back up to my set speed and you can really hear it, even over the radio. I've outgrown that I guess.

Yea. I just put a Borla catback on mine over the weekend. Sounds good. I’m hoping once the new wears off i still like it. The wife drove it and said it sounds like it needs a muffler. It’s really not that loud but, I’ve got my old one and just 2 bolts and a few hangers and it’s right back to stock.

$600 fart can for mine. I really haven’t driven enough to say I love or hate it at this point. I like the sound of it right now. Probably won’t see any more HP or MPG. It feels like slightly more HP but that could be because now I can hear it.

I used to have an F150 with the 5.4 that I had duals put on....20 years ago! I'm 53 now and just over it I guess, especially since there's really no mpg or hp benefit.

I was first interested in a TRD Off Road... the salesperson showed me one that had all the options I was interested in, plus a few “extras”. One such extra was the $800 TRD exhaust... so I said “let’s hear what an $800 option sounds like”. Once the truck was started I then said “next vehicle please”... crazy to through $800 away on that option (IMO).

Trade it off plus cash as others stated. You'll have a buyer if you price it right.

I have it... I actually like it. Don’t care and don’t expect anything in mpg margins

Wholeheartedly agree... This Limited I just bought was a dealer demo w/4k miles so that allows the dealer to 'write down' the cost of it quite a bit. If it was a new one in a normal circumstance I would have passed on it, too.

Finally meet Rob Daman. I've watched all your youtube vids! I'm a fan...!

When you say trade it, do you mean the truck or just the exhaust? I've actually inquired today on a couple new TRDORs. Like to find a white TRDOR long bed. Seems like looking for a needle in a haystack around here in the Midwest. Gotta love you can trade a Tacoma without taking a bath like other brands!

that is a decent sounding exhaust if it matters to you, but it is not any kind of performance system, just for sound and nothing more.

to answer your question, however, it is true this V6 responds very well to actual exhaust flow improvements. i have a custom exhaust system with rear cat removal and a tune, and it's an entirely different driving experience. the most restrictive part of the TRD cat back is the actual muffler... far more restrictive than the rear cats and crush pipes.

in other news my TRD muffler is available for free pickup in Denton if anyone wants to pm me

It is stainless steel, so there’s that. I can understand not wanting any noise though I don’t find mine loud at all. But basically yes it is just a “tuned exhaust sound” with no real world power benefits. For me I liked that it was SS and how it looked.

I'm just past the point of wanting to hear it. I'm having the TSB 0062-18 done tomorrow when they do my 5k maintenance. Looking forward to that...

good luck and i hope your TSB goes smooth.

some of us out here are especially performance focused. the truck is beyond a blast to drive when it's hardware/software optimized.

Oh cool! Appreciate that. It's a big list.

I meant the exhaust. It's actually a popular mod for Taco owners. Dealer wouldn't care or know if you trade it in with a standard exhaust.

It's strange when I looked for my Taco there was tons of long beds. Demand is definitely regional.
