That's not Top Fuel. That's an A/FD injected nitro dragster that runs in Top Alcohol. Carry On...

Keep in mind you need the 6.2 then.
I have raced 3 5.3s and out ran all of them(to my surprise and theirs).

Yeah I bought a house in norther Idaho and in the middle of trying to move. Never found a guy local that could fit my truck but my cousin works at Throttle works in Boise and said he can fit me no problem and I am already stopping by his house along my way up north so that's when I will pick up on this thread again. Trying to get up there by early December. Being that I am paying $$ to provide feedback on this debate, its not high up on my priority list right now lol

ECB844F2-442C-48D5-A552-1783A72FB220.jpg I recently installed PTR03-35160-AE TRD Intake Flow Acelrtor & 57-1600-BLK HPS Performance Silicone Air Intake Hose. I thought the baffle on the stock intake hose lessened any noise, but with this set up it calmed any noise coming from the engine. And, now I only hear TRD Cat back exhaust, which I like. Less noise in the cabin. It feels like it revs more free. Can't say anything about gas mileage as I installed at the same time the PTR13-35120 TRD TX Baja Suspension Kit w/ Bilsteins. Which I seem to have lost 1 or 2 MPG with the added inch lift. Admittedly, I need to spend more time with the set up, as I have not been on the highway yet. It does seem to shift different too.

I wont let this thread die without dyno results! lol My cousin lives in Boise and I am moving to Coeur D'alene so I am stopping by his house along the way, he works at Throttle Works and they have a dyno that will fit my truck so now I gotta figure out how to sell the wife on it being good for my truck and wont risk breaking anything along our move haha. I am moving 2nd or 3rd week of December so stay tuned until then.

It is through my own years of toying with intakes that I have found that when it comes to performance on an NA engine, unless your intake tubing, or filter is severely undersized for the engine and causing a legitimate bottleneck due to that restriction, or is getting choked up due to severe restrictions within internal baffling and resonators, that changing out intake systems on anything other than FI boosted applications nets nearly negligible to no gains at all.

This mod is just like an exhaust mod. They are done strictly for the cool/ sound factor.

However, depending on intake manifold design, big horsepower engines like GM LS series V8's and some of the bigger V6 engines which have straight through intake manifold runner designs and positions the throttle body in a straight out towards the radiator position, an over the radiator intake which places the filter directly in front of the radiator and away from a heat source without creating any bends or turns to the incoming air can net you SERIOUS gains.

I haven’t finished the thread, but if that’s 18 at the crank, then that’s about 7% increase over 278. I would think you could feel that. If that’s 18 at the wheel, then definitely.

I have no idea what the thread outcome is at this point... still working through it. I’m betting on numbers inside the error bars myself. :)

Don't hold your breathe if you are waiting on me, I am 1/2 through the process of moving from California to Idaho and starting a mortgage company. Once I have time and money to spend I will revive this thread.

Hello TW, long time lurker, first time poster here. I know this thread has been around for a while however, I have a stock TRD OR. I was wondering if I bought the TRD “flow accelerator” plus the tube along with the hoses and the clamps if that would work on a stock intake box. I know it’s not going to add any massive gains but i am interested in a little better throttle response and possibly better fuel economy. Let the bashing begin...

image.jpgIMO, I added the TRD “flow accelerator” and an HPS intake. The biggest difference I have noticed is the engine seems a little quieter and I hear more exhaust note. Nothing crazy. Just enjoy the TRD exhaust.

Good to know. Thanks for the info! Still curious to know if the TRD intake tube would work on the stock box.

I too installed the HPS intake tube. I've noticed an increase in intake noise especially when the Otto mode takes over. It's throaty, but not obnoxious.

I don't got money to waste on a dyno for a truck with 280ish HP. But my truck definitely seemed a little quicker after throwing a K&N intake on it.

33 pages of nothingburger. All the OP had to do was find a drag strip and make 3 runs each with the factory intake vs KN or whatever. Whichever intake yields the quickest time equals the best intake for real world usage in terms of power (filtering capability is a whole 'nother animal). I think the elapsed times would be extremely similar.
