I love old mining camps - something we have plenty of here in MT. Never ceases to amaze me when I think of th people who lived year-round in these remote towns so many years ago. If they're remote today you know they were 100x more so way back when. I can't even imagine what their lives would have been like.

It costs serious money to move equipment that large. Disassembly, permits, fuel. It probably cost more money to move than it was worth.

I found this EPIRB washed up on the beach when I went trout fishing a couple weeks ago. The registered owner had sold it and the new owner didn’t register it so it’s all mine! Will make my offshore fishing much safer. $430 EPIRB!

070318seaweed.jpgone of many times fishing off South Florida with dad and my cousin we all saw an obvious bail floating in the water. My cousin grabbed the gaff jumped up on the bow and yelled I got it uncle John I know someone who to sell it to. My dad and I looked at each other and laughed. Thankfully David has long since retired from the fire dept. for me to tell this story.

when i was 12 i found $500 in $20 bills on a hiking trail, and i found the remains of an old truck frame with engine block and axles in the mountains. based on the remoteness of the area and how no roads went to that location it was probably 60-70 years old

I agree it's crazy. Sometimes the company is so large, that it gets overlooked. Sometimes the property is tied up in lawsuits. Other times it may be mothballed just in case they need it in the future. My company bought an old dragline that had been parked for years. It's a piece of shit though, because of the retrofitting required to get it running.
