If the options were not disclosed to you, your insurance agent is liable for damages under his E&O policy. When shopping for insurance, this is one reason the cheapo insurance quote you get for auto insurance is so cheap. They don't include these coverages and don't tell you about them. Just FYI, next time you get a cheap quote from a one off company.

It's a law. Every state. Read E&O laws.

" comprehensive policy does not cover any damage do to lack of coverage."

You kind of proved my point. I carry 100/300/100 coverage. $1,000,000 personal liability. No limit on add on's that are permanently attached to my vehicle.

Now, as you stated, in the case that you get hit by someone who has (using an old school term) mudduq insurance, you can get screwed. But if your coverage covers your loss, they have to also, are your insurance company will pay you are go after them.

If you have an insurance policy that states that you have to list aftermarket parts value, and then pay extra for those parts based on value, find new insurance. Just heads up!

    Document mods, get good insurance.

FYI, having 25/50/25 and $100,000 personal liability would cost me a total of about $250 less a year. Something to talk to your insurance agent about.

Honestly, man it depends. When people have poor insurance, it makes all look bad. As an adjuster, companies have 2 ways they cover claims.

    1. The cheap-o companies.. We insure you for the lowest rate... Blah, blah, Yah they might, but they have a shoe string budget. You have no idea how much expense goes into a claim. There is at minimum $250 spent before they talk to you. And at least $500 just going look at the vehicle. Cheap companies try to just deny and hope for the best.
    2. Good insurers, they say, OK, $250 on man power to start the claim, $1,000 to get inspection done. Pay the claim. Oh, person is not happy with the settlement? Way cost of sending another adjuster out, possibly several trips out, labor cost or claim reps time on the phone dealing with the claim... Is the freakin claim valid? If so, pay it, move on, it costs us less.

From the inside, that's how it works.
