Fog lights fill with water

Decided to give my recently purchased gen 2 its first bath.
I noticed that the fog lights as the now full of water. Looks like the previous owner cut th inner plastic fender wells.
Other than replacing the inner fender, what can I do to keep water out of my fog lights for now.

 

You can take them apart and clean and dry them really well then seal them with silicone.

 

If the fog lights are getting water inside, then the housings are leaking. Simple but expensive option is to replace the housings/lights. You may be able to reglue the light housings, however thats hit or miss.

 

maybe a stupid question, but best/cheapest place to purchase new housing?

high quality after market options?

How much better off would I be to get a set of the KC hi lite replacements over getting an oem replacement and putting in a set of vled bulbs?

I have no experience with the vled bulbs but from what I can tell they are quite a bit brighter?

Needs more blinker fluid

 

What type of bulbs are you using? When I replaced my fog light bulbs with cheap led bulbs, they always fogged up. When I went back to quality halogen bulbs, they wouldn't fog. The seals on the led bulbs were junk. I replaced mine with the KC G4's, so I've got a set of factory housings if you're interested.

 

Just bought the truck, and it has an led bulb inside, I have no idea what brand/model. But I do know they are pretty much worthless as far as lumen output.
The aftermarket bulb could be the issue in itself?

I do know that the end goal is to replace the entire housing/set up for some BD squadron pro's. That's just not entirely financially feasible right now. At this point i want them to function and not suck.

What's the going rate for a set of housings? I'm new to Tacomas and parts prices

 

The led bulbs I had used a silicone gasket that was very soft and flexible where the halogens had what looked like a stiffer red rubber gasket. If it was me, I'd buy some decent halogen bulbs and try those first before buying housings.

Be careful with claims that any particular bulb - particularly LEDs bulbs - are "brighter." The first problem with most aftermarket LED replacement bulbs is that they flat out don't last very long - despite wild claims of durability. Second, slapping an LED bulb into a housing designed for a halogen bulb will almost always decrease the performance of the light. Finally, beware claims of "brightness" as measured by Lumen output. These claims are almost always based on theoretical output as opposed to actual output. Want to guess which one is always lower?

Do yourself a favor and buy a replacement set of LED pods as reviewed and posted by crashnburn80. (That link was already shared.) I have a set of the winning KC pods as shown in that post and they're absolutely awesome. Beware non-DOT compliant pods because although they may be bright, you'll also piss off oncoming drivers due to their lack of beam discipline.

 

I went thru that thread a couple times trying to soak up as much info as I could.
I ended up ordering a set of BD squadron pros. Waiting on delivery to instal.. when I can afford a set of $1500 retrofits for my headlights I'll swap those out as well.

 

Sounds like your blinker fluid was low or empty. After you started washing you had actually started refilling them. I am suprised your blinkers were working being so low on blinker fluid.

 

Those are great lights, but not DOT legal. Unfortunately, I think you'll find that they tick off oncoming drivers pretty well.
