Having been in Honda parts for 15 years, and moonlighted part time at a major parts chain.....no. Unfortunately it seems they don't require much automotive knowledge...

    Lots of sail boat fuel
That sucks. Wonder if it's a truck specific thing. Just did about +140 in 4HI and 40 in 4Lo this weekend iane got about 14.6.

I average about 17.6 with the lift, tires, rack and gear now. Goes up to 19 if I stay around 55mph

    Yeah.

Yesterday, while driving home I got 13mpg in the Tacoma. That’s while driving moderately.

In the 5.0 F150 (2017) that I rented, I got 11mpg on the same route, but it was WOT almost the whole way.

Basically, the same fuel costs, but way different level of satisfaction.

And being that the F150 had a 9000k trip average of 18MPG when first I turned it on.... it’s getting really hard to reconcile this .

Toyota has been really great to me for that last 18 years. I have never taken a vehicle to the mechanic or had to fix anything other than a battery.

Reliability is an open question now for the Tacoma 3rd gen, and it just feels like guttless piece of crap. After spending my whole adult life as a loyal Toyota customer and almost a fan boy of Toyota, I really think I am jumping ship to ford.

Can’t live with the boring vehicles anymore.

*buys midsize V6 truck, complains it doesn’t have a full size power train*

I get 19MPG on flat road. I get 13-15MPG in the mountains. It’s not the most efficient, but it’s also not a boat, and I could get it with a manual transmission.

Y’all knew what you were getting into when you bought a Tacoma - a modestly powered, not terribly fuel efficient when stock, midsize.

No, I had 2nd gen for almost 10 years.

I expected the same level of satisfaction with a third gen. In fact I expected something better than my previous Tacoma.

Take-away the better infotainment and better looks of the 3rd gen, and what am I left with?

An engine that plainly sucks, without a factory warrantied supercharger option. Body panels that are not aligned and unpredictable reliability.

I don't get it? On wet highway ramps, I'm sliding, not getting traction, and tickling the rev limiter plus occasional wheeling and other goofing off. But, my MPGs. . .

I regret not waiting for a manual. I'm just too much of a control freak I guess. Any dissatisfied manual owners wanna trade?

News flash - the 4.0L is gutless too. Your nostalgia is getting to you. If you think your 3.5L isn’t doing it for you, shift at a higher RPM. The magic of a manual transmission!

Yeah. I’ve only owned MT vehicles my entire life. Guess I must have forgotten about that magic.

I have never had to downshift so many times just to get by.

The TSB really helped, but it’s reverting back for some reason. I don’t get it

I feel like my truck is fine, bucks every now and then but it has plenty of power.

You guys are just not used to the tq curve of the new motor. Wind it out more, that's what its meant for.

If you want slow, take a 1st gen with the 3rz for a spin. I thought it sucked before, then come armour, lift, and 33s. Now that is a weak motor, might be reliable but just under powered

I’ve noticed that in the truck I have a difficult time backing it up with a trailer. However, I’m talking about backing up, uphill. I often find myself putting this truck in 4x4 when backing a loaded trailer uphill. Kinda annoying but....I don’t fry the clutch up.

I understand that some people expected something more but I still feel I purchased the best truck for my needs. It could be better in some areas (always) but it is the best there is currently available that checked all my boxes. That doesn't mean I'll never decide to try something else.

I mean, if you’ve driven a manual for your entire life like everyone else on this site that complains about clutch burn, lack of power at 1500RPM, etc., I suppose you’d stop shifting up so much in order to quit downshifting. But that’s just me

Update on accumulator delete parts drama lol

I found two knowledgeable souls - one at Canadian Tire of all places, who sold me the 12" 3/16 line with correct fittings/flare. The other was at Napa, got me a double female union (heh).

This is happening over the Christmas break

Down here, I was surprised that these short sections of line exist, in stock. Since, I have been trying to figure out what folks use them for? I could see flex lines for replacing rotted rubber and such, but who's swapping out short sections of hard lines? Other than a handful of goofy TW'ers.

    Have fun!

Cool I’ll just shift at 6k from now on. That will solve everything. Thanks for the advice.

I liked the 3.4 in my 2000, it scooted along pretty nicely, guessing the 4 cylinder was on the slower side.

    So. Many. Stickers.
Wow, so many drama queens in here complaining about lack of power.... Try shifting around 4000rpm and keep your foot in it. These trucks can get their assets moving if you're not afraid to wind them up a bit.

Also, I've been averaging around 20 mpg with my '18 AC M/T. Granted, the only mods so far are a hood swap (aero) and a Trd Pro shift knob (faster, cooler, Paul Walker shifting) but still.... Sounds to me like a lot of people forget that adding crap to your trucks means that they weigh more, and that as a manual, you control the shift points. So quit whining, be a proper man (or lady) and drive your truck like it's a truck.
