I just removed the cap off my tacoma jack. I put the jack in a vice and used a large bolt and a mallet. It took some pretty solid wacks to pop the cap off. Once one side was started, I flipped the jack over and the cap popped off with another blow or two.

Thanks- I ended taking the dremel and got it off pretty easily.

So were you able to use the Tacoma jack with the SafeJack accessories? I thought the diameter of it was still too big even with the cap removed?

I tried using the Tacoma jack and it still didn't fit the extensions without the cap. I got a hydraulic USA Jack that uses the right size ram for the extensions and could be more powerful.

I was just seeing how difficult popping that thing off would be before spending money on everything else.

Does anyone know of an improved jack that will fit in the existing area for the stock jack under the seat in an access cab? There’s been a few decent suggestions in this thread, but I haven’t seen a specific model or part number called out.

There are a few companies that make a base that replace the wheels so it’s a huge footprint. Most Baja guys use those cause you can pump it up faster.

    Hi,
Which HF Pittsburg 5 Racing Jack to get? Theres 3 same model? And 1.5 ton enough for Tacoma? Also need to look up how to make the Pro Eagle extension work.

VVV I have the writeup to add the pro eagle stuff in my build thread. VVV

They are all the same jack. HF uses different part numbers for the same item to track supplier quality / returns.

I bought one similar to this one years ago, and it's still going strong. I've used it in below freezing temps and in the summer heat.

That little stock jack can do more than you think. Pair it with a wood block and base and get another bottle jack to go with it. Disclaimer: I have a hi-lift and I have real sliders and a slider adapter to use it on. However it stays in the bed and I will use/attempt to use the stock or bottle jack before the hi-lift.

But that OEM jack is all mechanical so you never have to worry about it not working due to hydraulic fluid leak. But having a hydraulic bottle jack to use with it is the most compact solution.

I saw a review/picture of the Safejack 6 ton bottle jack fitting in the OEM jack spot.

Will it leak if put in the same position as the stock jack?

I’m totally stealing this idea and making modifications to make it like a ProEagle jack for much less cost. This is brilliant. I’ll add a jack stand for safety. Thanks.

Those are almost the exact if not the exact same thing as a pro eagle besides the big wheels

Will a 1.5 ton jack be enough for a 2018 Tacoma? I’d like to go as light and compact as possible.

The factory jack is about 1.65 ton so yes that is likely fine. Definitely fine for jacking one wheel.
