I don’t understand so many comments around here that are worded as absolutes.

The US market Ranger isn’t out yet, I’ll believe it when I drive it. I’ve never driven an Hilux, but my understanding is that they are not the same as Tacoma.
Baby Raptor and the Tacoma is done for?
Your delusional, some folks just want a truck they dont need a Raptor. They are the majority.

Now don’t get me wrong. I hope the Ranger is good and a baby Raptor is coming. Choices and competition are good for the consumer.

Ya,the Ranger does look pretty good. The 4x4 stx that was shown on TFL trucks would fit me perfectly( rubber floors, torquey 4 banger, locker yada yada). Will see how it holds up.

The Tacoma is popular because it’s a sharp looking truck.

People buy because it looks great then get disappointed with the garbage engine and garbage build quality.

The Ranger has best in class torque, best in class mileage and Factory warrantied Overland gear. It’s will be the best Overlanding vehicle in America next to a Jeep.

What other truck can come stock with a RTT?

I am begging you to buy a Ranger with the 2.3 EB.

If I had the money, I'd even buy you one.

While you're at it, what are you basing your overlanding claim on? Have you done a lot of overlanding?

As mentioned, this dude cannot be serious, just getting us to respond.

Sorry CA folks, but you must live in CA, - pollution is getting to ya. How many buyers of the 20,000 units per month sold or ~240,000 units per year or ~800,000 3rd gen sold will used for overlanding? Oh yeah, garbage engine, how many blown engines in these ~800,000 units? :frusty:.:lalala:

    I disagree on both points.
The Tacoma is popular because of its reputation.
Garbage engine and build quality? Really? I don’t see it.
RTT most buyers could care less.
Overlanding fad will be gone as quick as it came.

    Kamil is not smitty.

Kamil is very strange however. There are occasions where he/she will post gleaming reviews about the Tacoma... then a day later, completely disown it.

    Weird. But not smitty.

Aren't you the dude who saw a tacoma on the side of the road one time then FREAKED OUT about reliability??

You're like an automotive hypochondriac lol

Dont really think the ranger will fare as well as the Tacoma in reliability. Squeezing that much power out of a 2.3 4 cyl will definitely wear out an engine before the 3.5 or 4L even break in completely.

Owned many Ford Broncos, Rangers, and F-150s, now living in the Ford Mecca, Detroit.

Unless it was a Mazda engine, Ford engine reliability is just not that of a Tacoma, especially the 4 banger.

Many buyers (and speculators) have their own weighted model of reasons they bought X or Y brand.

Mine was simple, (Price/Total Estimated Miles), TCO, and percentage recovery of the asset when sold or disposed.

To me, the Tacoma seems to be the best mid-size truck long-term asset to be driving as a daily.

I see close to 0 posts on engine or tranny faults here. Just people whining it doesn't drive like an 8 cylinder full size. I'll take Toyota reliability any day over a maxed out 4 cylinder Ford.

Bi-polar. Smitty was at least resolute and implacable.

KB changes with whatever direction the wind blows. Very susceptible to the power of suggestion.

I test drove a 2014 Spruce Mica TRD OR, 2019 TRD Sport M/T, and my 2019 TRD OR and went with my 19 OR. I enjoyed rowing gears in the Sport, but I get stuck in traffic a lot and went with the OR. The 2nd gen drove great, but to me they all drive like a V6 truck. If I wanted more Torque/Power I would have gotten a Tundra.

I think the new Ranger will be digging more into F150 sales than Tacoma sales.

    I guess we'll see.

    Nods in approval.

0to60 times are the last thing I would expect to see on a Toyota pickup enthusiast forum...Yet it’s definitely a thing here, go figure. When a person isn’t satisfied with the 0to60 (whatever forever) of a TACOMA, I smirk. It’s just ridiculous.

A maxed out 4 cylinder ford that been cracking blocks all over the place:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iGDEqRBr14

Add to that Motor Trend reporting that these things lose power on a mild day, plus Mustang EB and focus RS owners on second and third engines......fuck ford. Try harder.
