If I were in the market for a cheap 4 cylinder truck I wound probably go Ranger over a 4 cylinder Tacoma. I think the Ranger will sell.

I've seen the Ranger in Europe and it was a good looking truck. Not sure if they are keeping the body the same or not for the US version.

Tacoma is an endless classic proven time and time again. That’s a problem with our world now is everything is looked as temporary. “It’s ok I’ll buy a new vehicle and in 3-5 years just trade it in for another new one.” Yes that does technically work but anyone who plans to keep there vehicle past it’s warrenty date is going to stick with Toyota! Will rangers and gladiator steal some sales of coarse! When ever there’s something new and shiny people get excited! But it’s not a secret Jeeps and EB fords have a handful of problems(yes Toyota’s do have problem just not nearly as often!!) These forums keep going crazy into big fights and it is kind of comical! If you actually don’t like your Tacoma be happy there is new competition and go buy yourself a non proven $40k+ gamble but this is a Tacoma site! A lot of people must walk into other NFL teams sports bars and start bitching about there QB or LB, just asking to get bit!

Wonder how many newer toyota tacomas sell based on a brand perception? Now will the newer tacoma hold up in the long run compared to previous generations?

Totally agree! I bought my Tacoma because of past trends. But like you said they have changed a lot about the truck. I hope it is a good thing but like all other new vehicles time will be the ultimate judge. I am happy other company’s are getting more competition out there as it will hopefully help get more people I like into the Bush and out enjoying nature! I hope they don’t have problems as all this does as puts a sour taste in people’s mouths. If you like your vehicle be happy if you don’t I’m very sorry. I love my truck and honestly constantly find new things to appreciate about it. I bought a midsize truck not a sports car, and end of the day drives like a truck which is awesome! Ultimately I just hope others can be as happy with there vehicle as I am with mine.

Same here. I thought I was just noticing them more but I guess the numbers make sense. I used to see one or two tacomas in a month. Now I see more 2nd and 3rd gens where I never would have before. Its not hard to see why compared to all the new trucks out there Toyota really made this one look great... imo

Lol for fun on the drive home from work when traffic is bad I play the “Tacoma time game” I count how long it takes to pass a 2-3 Gen Tacoma normally Around every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. That’s confidence!

We'll find out in next year's JD Power 3-year Dependability rating, where this year the 2015 Tacoma took the cake for the fifth year in a row for the Mid-Size Pickup.

And, resale value...according to KBB Resale Awards. Tacoma has been the #1 every year since they started. Holding 61.1% at 60 months.

It makes sense Toyota would be ahead in quality, considering the US rejected quality assurance and control back when Deming tried to tell the Big 3 to listen. The US rejected William Deming, so he went to Toyota. Since then, Toyota is arguably 4-8 years ahead of all other car manufacturers in quality and value.

25k for a base model, and each model has 270Hp and 310lbs of torque.

Think of what can be done with the additional 10-15k in savings compared to a Tacoma

Value is not in price alone, because what are you paying for? IMO, its miles from point A to B. If you took the price of a truck and divide over it's estimated total miles before it blows up, do you think a Tacoma 4 banger would have a lower $/mile or a turbo ranger?

Then, at resale, Ford vs Toyota, that turbo Ranger will lose over half it's value in 36 months. The combination of poor $/mile out of a durable asset and low resale value means poor buying choice for your wallet. Although, cranking the boost on the ranger would be fun.

And, an SR, apples to apples, base model right? Starts at 25K also.

There’s a bad apple in every barrel.

That’s basically the argument that I see here every time a member has a mechanical or electrical failure here.

I used to think that too, but if you look up their methods, they are not too shabby at statistical modeling. Eigenvalue ranking and that sort.

The Ranger has better epa numbers than the 4cyl Tacoma.

The Tacoma’s resell value and reliability are unproven and unpredictable in my opinion. Who wants a truck with a howling grenade rear diff?

When there is a far better alternative like the Ranger, What will happen to the resell value?

Ecoboost is proven to fail more often than a Tacoma rear diff. Would much rather have my diff go.

And, the EPA? That's a joke. They rated the Golf TDI at what again 35, when it gets 50. And the Ford Fusion getting 47/47, they had to come out and say they scammed us with that metric. The EPA is full of shit, why diesel is still in Europe. And, turbo, these days, will almost always be more efficient. But again, the Tacoma is a smarter buy, Ranger is a more fun buy.

Toyota pickups have ALWAYS had great resale value. Dude wtf? Do people not remember Toyota’s? Even when the ranger was here, the resale value was great. You think Toyota pickups got this following JUST BECAUSE they discontinued the US ranger? Not a fucking chance. There was a fan base way before.
