Ok, chamfers are easy. Should be an easy part to make. Also if you can let me know the diameter I'll see if I have material on hand. I can always buy material from the local metal supplier if needed though.

I'm thinking 303 stainless steel or CR1018 mild steel. I don't keep ductile iron on hand, I try to avoid machining that stuff cause it's messy. The differences in weight between SS, alloy steel, & iron are minimal so it might not make a difference but generally stainless steel is heavier than steel & steel is heavier than cast iron.

And if there's room I can also make it a larger diameter and/or longer in length if you want more weight.

This is just what happens when you use your truck for non on road things. Squeaks and clunks are part of the life, you won't read that in trip reports or build threads, but they all make a racket

I didn't know that stainless was heavier, that's neat, less chance I'll have to paint it. On a 240SX that part holds the rubber boot to isolate you from the outside, on a 300zx that part does nothing so we could make it a larger diameter or not have the taper. I guess I'd need an estimation of weight to make that call. I'll shoot you those pictures tonight and we can go from there.

Race truck part and activities make race truck noises.

The lack of noise in my virgin 02 is overwhelming.

And most of your stuff is rubber mounted still, it only gets worse. Dynamat and a stereo is the real cure

Only noise that continues to bug the hell out of me consistently is the damn roof rack rattling around inside the roof where the well nuts are, I think one or more of them is busted and needs to be replaced. Makes a knocking noise in the roof around most turns and bumps. That's going to be a fun project

My factory LC roof rack does this. The factory nutserts are coming loose. I'm gonna pulll it and rubber plug all the holes so I can put a real roof rack on for the tent.

yeah it drives me crazy but a little less so now that I know what I need to do, but taking that thing off is going to be a project. And part of me knows that once it's off, I will probably like it better off but then I'll have 8 half inch holes in my roof to deal with, lol.
