Like others said, if you really hate it, drive it and keep it looking nice, and run an ad in Auto Trader and look for dry flat states and sell it outright, DONT trade it in or you WILL take a bath. Lesson learned, do homework, don't buy the first one you see, .............do your homework! Then buy the right one for you, and DONT pay a "market adjustment upcharge" Just don't be in a hurry. Good luck

Can mods ban people from specific sub forums? I don't think certain members need to be removed all together, but if you just continually shit on a specific sub, who needs ya?

$40K? Ouch. I got taken on the first car I bought back in 1990 (at 21), and it made me a much better buyer for every vehicle that came after. We only need to get burned once to learn the stove is hot, so consider this your lesson and move on.

A 2WD Tacoma is better than many other 4WD vehicles when properly equipped. A locker and good shoes go a long way to keeping you out of trouble.

Then again, you can always do what I do and simply remain a pavement princess (or asphalt avenger as it's known locally).

Welcome to TW, and we'll help you out as much as we are able.

Sounds like a hard lesson learned.
This is why dealers are typically universally hated.
They will bend you over and extract every dime from your ass if you let them.
A decent deal on a TRD Offroad 4x4, doublecab longbed should be around $35k before taxes/tags.
    I bought my 2018 for $34,983.

Some states have a buyers remorse clause/law that helps people who have been properly fucked by a dealer.
You may want to look into that as a possible option.

Sucks for you, but as some said, give it a chance. 2WD with locker can do pretty well, most times you may not even need 4x4.

I bought a PreRunner in June, traded it in for a 4x4 in November. I told them I wouldn't make the trade unless they took over the whole loan of the PreRunner. I did this with the sole purpose that I will be overlanding anywhere where I can overland at and I wanted the 4x4 for the extra assurance.

Clean it up, wax it, buff it, scrub the under carriage, detail it to nth degree; take it to another dealer in another town and trade it for a 4WD, tell them it was a surprise for your significant other and he/she ran off with another dude who had a Cadillac. It will be a mild hit, but worth it.

seems you paid a bit more than most for what you got. That said, the upcharge for 4x4 is about 3k, so you'll loose 3k if you trade but since you are now equipped with some pricing knowledge maybe you can negotiate a little harder and get that down some. If you're in a state that charges sales tax, selling privately will screw you even more on taxes since you can't reduce the taxable sales price by the trade-in.

It's still a nice truck and the locker will go a long way to save you from getting stuck. If you want to save the beating on trading it at this point, maybe drive it a year or so than go back and negotiate. Maybe a different dealer.

Couple years ago I saw a TRD Off Road on St. Augustine Beach buried up to the rear bumper. Thought to my self...self I'm damn glad I'm in my stock 2000 TJ with only 31x10.5" tires.

Only found out a couple weeks ago the damn things could be 2 wheel drive. WTF?
