Do you mean to tell me that I shouldn't expect a mid-size truck to have 400 hp, beat cars in a race, have 2500 lbs of load capacity for all of my overlanding gear, get 34 MPG, and cost <$30k? I'm shocked...

Sales took off a year ago when Toyota started pumping out more trucks. Prior to that, there just was not enough inventory on the ground. People could not get what they want. When dealers started having 100 Tacomas in inventory last year, there were people commenting that Toyota must be having trouble moving them. This was not the case at all and these numbers prove it.

    Are you for real?
I have read most of your posts here. Your opinion on most things does not match the norm. This is just another one.

you know what's sad, i get 27mpg cruising at 2k rpms in my 17 Mustang GT auto with 3.55's while my truck get's maybe 19 with the same gas (91) and 4.88's with 32's. Same cruising rpm of around 2100rpms.

The truck is probably not near as aerodynamic as that Mustang is

We shall see come December 2020. I predict the Ranger will meet or exceed the Tacoma sales. even if we are deep in a recession by then, Ranger sales will continue to grow.

The Tacoma will be seen just like the Tundra—an aging Dinosaur that gets outrageously low fuel economy.

Same engine in Lexus sedans doesnt get that much higher fuel economy.

Same engine in the LC500h still get comparable fuel economy and worse performance.

So your 2 wheel drive, aerodynamic car, sitting much lower to the ground, on street tires, that weighs less, has smaller tires, and is geared taller gets better gas mileage than a boxy pick-up truck, with great ground clearnace, all terrain tires, with 4X4, that is cab on frame and weighs more, has much larger tires and shorter gearing doesn't get as good of cruising MPG on the freeway?

I am shocked (insert pikachu meme here)

P.S. Please note that Raptors get 13-14 MPG and they have the same sized engine as us (3.5 V6) and a 10 speed tranny

Same engine but different tune and a different body so aerodynamics will make a big difference.

As for the ranger taking Tacoma sales I don't see people lining up in droves to leave a V6 platform to drop into a turbo boosted 4 banger mid sized truck.

But by all means keep up the dream

Ill send your towards our outside sales department in Mexico who use the new turbo Rangers to deliver/make sales calls. They can tell you how many times they have been in the shop for the truck breaking down. Hint... we are sick of Ford Rangers already

I’m totally on board with you having your opinions and all that, and I’ll entertain them (no matter how wild they are) but the Tacoma will never be out of style, even if I wanted it to be for the simple reason I hate that it’s cool to have a Tacoma... it just will never be UNCOOL to have one. Like jeeps (gross) they are cemented in their own culture, iconic, and timeless. Ever since the way back, even when it was a faux pas to own Japanese.

Who exactly are you trying to sell the Ranger to? Us or yourself?

Look, any new car/truck is somewhat of a gamble. All the manufacturers are so close in reliably its just splitting hairs. They all can.... and do have problems....any machine will.

For most that have been around a while the Tacoma is the safe bet. We have seen the S10/GM twins, Ranger and Dakota come and go. The Toyota was always there. With better resale and reliably.
Anyone buying a truck looking for good mileage bought the wrong vehicle. There are much better choices.

So again who are you trying to sell it to?
Us is my guess so you can feel good about it when you buy one.

Hahaha! It will take many years of reliable service before anyone is going to say a Ford is reliable. The idea that the Ranger will come out and everyone will flock to it is about as realistic as the same claims made about the new Colorado.

But it's so much fun to call it a turd gen.:p We all like what we like and toyota has been hammering the market share for sales in trucks for years. I don't doubt that sales will surpass other popular vehicles.

I still love my Tacoma. Sure, there's things I don't like but I still love my reliable truck.
    That being said (UH-OH!)
I won't buy one the next time I upgrade unless the whole engine/trans thing is fixed/completely gone.
I still get annoyed by the weenie engine and gear searching.
But hey, my mom can be annoying, too, but I still love her ;)
