Technically its about the same as a 4x4 sport... without a locker your basically only powering one front and one rear in 4x4. So 2 wheels powered.

2wd off road with the locker powers 2 rear wheels... pluses and minuses to both I reckon

    Dont you think @JaCado ?

OR 2wd. Holy hell, how many people must be lamenting that purchase..

OP, it's still early in Kali. If you've got the credit and can handle the payment, go get the truck you want.
You can come to grips with overpaying for something, if it's something you love. Any money spent modding your current truck would be better spent getting you into the one you meant to buy.

Exactly. No offence OP, I am sorry for your mistake, but your 2WD taco is fine for the situations you described.

Most of the trucks in WWII were 2WD, including the Dodge LRDP trucks used in the Sahara:
    28C8C567-19B8-4866-B010-9F8B8699A9EF.jpg

    Ford Model Ts were 2WD:
    76390C27-2953-476A-9C8A-81C9F935B52A.jpg

And my parents raised me in Northern BC driving around all winter in a 2WD Fargo:
    D5085EF8-DAAC-4014-99B4-54A6129AEFFB.jpg

None of these vehicles had traction control / ABS / Locker / or modern tires. They all do fine with proper driving skills.

Hope you find something that works for you. But don’t hate your Taco for being what it is.

Question OP. What state do you live in? A good buddy of mine and old roommate still works at my old dealership(because his dad owns the place)

If you are close enough I could call in a favor and try and get you out of the 2wd and into the one you want. You are still going to be out some cash but this could at least mitigate the damage some.

    Hey welcome!

As others have stated, wait till you're not as upside down, then start shopping for a new 4x4! I can totally relate to the putting on chains part - I remember when I had a 2WD 4Runner and had to stop at Big Bear to put chains on. It was a PITA, and ever since my new Tacoma I just wave at them as I pass by.

A 2WD is extremely capable too - So don't underestimate it!

I remember I was ridiculed mercilessly on my first post. I still remember the dude who did it, but I won't say who it was....because now he is a bro, before any ho.

"Little research" ??? I would say zero research. If anyone is going to buy a truck that's like the first thing you determine. 2 or 4 WD. The second might be price. $40K before tax for a 2WD sounds like you walked in and paid the full sticker price plus a bonus to the salesperson. Sorry you are in this situation.
