I believe that he reads and believes what he says... but it’s not just him. There are people who are obsessed with what is going to outsell what... like it even matters. Dude if everyone in the world up and bought a ranger I wouldn’t give a single shit. Because I still have my tacoma. So then the forums bloom with strangely weird threats like “just wait until the ranger comes...” like- what is going to happen? Is the ranger going to come to my house and stomp on my tomato patch? Is it going to shovel my driveway snow BACK ON to my driveway after I’ve shoveled it? Is it going to make my tacoma less than what it is? Oh the terror...

But when it comes, it will be more of the same, just like it was when it left, with the exception of a boost in sales since it’s the “grand reopening” so to speak. But yeah, like it was. Where a huge percentage of their sales were fleet because they were so cheap. Where people would choose the ranger over the Tacoma because it was cheaper, and suited their needs. But there will always be people who value the Tacoma because at its core, it was a more solid platform. I’m talking about the 3.4 and 2.7, or even the 22re. They had a reputation that the ranger didn’t, and it’s still going to be the case, bells and whistles be damned. Even if it has a diesel, the people who 1)know literally nothing about diesel 2) have never owned or maintained one 3) know nothing about scr/def systems are in for a fucking let down. And then... it will still be the same. Some people prefer Toyota, some prefer ford. Some can afford a Toyota, some can only spend Ford money. Some ENTHUSIASTS demand only Toyota, some demand only ford. Nothing is going to change, my tomato’s are gonna be fine, and my snow will stay shoveled. And since I don’t own shares of any company, I don’t give a fuck who sells more of what. So weird.

FWIW..Out of 5 vehicles my 3rd gen is the only keeper of the lot...

Why would you expect a truck with 4.88 gears and heavier, larger diameter tires to get better mileage than your Mustang? Please explain.

Baby Raptor for $50 vs Pro for $50...probably a nice comparison.

Same cruising rpms and speed. That negates most of your sarcasm.

Aerodynamics, weight, and rolling resistance are all that’s left.

My point is more that v8’s are seen as so gas hungry yet the reality is it depends on the platform in which they are placed.

The Tacoma would be wonderful with an updated 4.7 v8 and likely see no worse in mileage but worlds better driving behavior.

To add that 305 wide tires likely have more rolling resistance vs a 265 wide tire on a paved road surface.

I’m not knocking the Tacoma, I’m frustrated at the industry hate for v8’s and Toyota’s mindset for mpg is to run a ridiculous rpm while cruising. The savings just isn’t there.

Our mileage is compatible to a 5.0 f150.

Do you really think that your DuraTracs are more efficient than some smaller diameter street tires?

Gears actually help lessen load and amplify torque. Especially since I’m not running giant tires. Higher load at low rpms requires more fuel and widens the injector pulse hurting mileage. Hence why as soon as the truck sees load you’re in 4th.

Please explain to me how the larger diameter, heavier carcass, and tread on the DuraTracs make them easier to turn.

I wonder if some of you graduated basic math.

Cruising rpms and speed are the same. The diameter of the tires on either vehicle doesn’t matter at that point.

Only load which is a factor of weight, wind and rolling resistance, along with maintained speed

So is this why Tacoma’s are selling at high levels?

Not because it’s like a hamburger? This thread is still confusing.

So it takes just as much energy to turn a heavier, larger diameter tire as some street slicks? I don't think that you know what you're talking about...

Nah. Just think Toyota chose the wrong drivetrain for this truck for the enthusiast.

For the masses, most don’t give a shit.

    Here's what is hilarious...
I know the original Ridgeline engineer and chief engineer. We met way back (late 2000's)and we discussed the "dismal" (around 40K) sales numbers. He said that anything over 30K and they were making money with the Ridgeline (the 1st gen.) Now, I know that Toyota is making bank on 250K Tacomas, but in reality they will make money if they only sold 100K or so. The GM twins make money even though they are not the sales leader. There is no magical rule that says you have to sell the most to make money.

    You’re assuming heavier.

Again - diameter doesn’t matter at this point.

Hey everybody, if you want to raise your gas mileage throw some 33" tires on your truck and install 5.29 gears! That's the way to do it right?

You’re being dumb. Sorry. You’re sarcasm simply means you can’t actually discuss the topic.

The duratracs in my size weight 15lbs more than my nittos.

My wheels on the truck weight the same as the wheels on my stang.

So your dramatic weight difference amounts to a total of 60lbs.

Aero is effecting mileage way more than rolling weight at this point.

Mustang curb weight is around 3600 and the Tacoma around 4400. Only 800lbs. That’s a couple of fat dudes difference.

You’re blowing these comparisons way out of proportion.
