I feel bad for the dude, but I really do not understand how he bought his truck in a 2 wheel drive. Did he think he was buying a 4 wheel drive? I don;t buy it the dealer will not trade, Go for a SR package 4 wheel drive and you should come up on top.
Call some reps and tell them your story. Welcome to the forum and I feel for you..........

If the OP does come back.

Drive it until you can afford to trade it for a 4X4. I started with 4X4 vehicles in 1976. Shortly before I got married in 1983 my car was totaled in a crash leaving me with a beater 4X4. I needed decent transportation and traded the older 4X4 + insurance money and bought a 4X2 truck. I hated it for 2+ years until I could afford to make the change. Lesson learned and I've owned only 4X4's since.

Don't waste time or money trying modifications in the mean time. That will just delay you from reaching the goal you really want.

Congrats! I am still in a love hate battle with my 3rd gen... not that it is a bad truck, it just doesn't live up to my expectations after being 100% satisfied with my 2008 sport.

Your truck is only worth $28k right now? I find it hard to believe you lost $12k in value already.

The only thing that I'm a little disappointed with is the leather seats. I went with the premium package because I thought that's what I wanted. After having the truck a little bit, I only opened the sun roof 2 times and the leather seat are not as comfortable as my 2015 cloth seats. I love my 3rd Gen.

    :yay:

Remember the 40K was before taxes. So that 6K went to taxes plus the dealer fees and whatever snake oil option package they sold him to inflate the price. So the truck they are saying is worth 34K. Which is about right.

I wanted a Taco a while back (2015), it was going to be my daily driver, I wanted to conserve fuel, Sooo I bought a Barcelona Red DCSB, 4cyl, Automatic, Prerunner, "Texas Edition"

It was a mistake... The truck was tragically under powered (for what I was expecting), I didn't like the 2wd aspect and I really wanted a Manual Transmission..

So why did I buy it? WELL it wasn't 100% on me, my wife gets part of the blame... I wanted a truck, but we were also looking at buying a house, I saw that BR Taco and it looked Good! I got a great deal on the truck, I was impatient, I bought it on impulse, She wanted the gas saving aspect 4 cyl, I wanted a truck... and we COMPROMISED but we also dealt with it later... I drove it for a year and it just so happened at that time my wife wanted a Highlander and was driving her 2010 Corolla. I agreed to give up my gutless wonder Taco and traded it in on her Highlander. The agreement was I would drive the Corolla to and from work until our son turned 16 and took it over and I would get a truck of my choosing at that time... I was kinda sold on a Tundra for a while... but honestly don't need the full size truck so NOW I am going with a 4x4 V6 Taco instead.

Bottom line is I wanted something and compromised and got something that was almost what I wanted. I actually regretted every minute of it.

Get what you want, find a dealership and trade what you have for what you want NOW it will only fester and you will continue to hate your bad decision.

lol Life is too freakin short to regret a big purchase like that, from now on I will only buy what I want!
That is why I am holding out for a specific model, color and options on this truck purchase!

Let me get this straight... you put 6K into it, and you’re 6K upside down? That’s a 12K lost by my simple math... so the dealership is only offering you 28K for a trade into a 4x4? Upside down generally means you have a loan that is more than the present value of the vehicle. Are you sure you’re using the correct terminology... if you are, then I feel really awful for you... a 12K lost is hard to swallow.
