3" lift and jack?

Does anyone know if the stock (emergency) jack is any good after a 2.5-3" lift? Also, I'm considering getting a more decent jack for home use.
What's customary: A jack and 4 jack stands? Only two and work one axle at a time? Can I lift an entire axle with the jack, and use the two stands to completely take it off the ground?

But, most importantly, will the emergency jack still be of use in case I need it.

How would you use the stock bottle jack in a pinch for changing tires, it isn't high enough when fully extended is it? I'm sure you are right so what am I missing?

I haven't tried, but I asked the same question not too long ago, and got the same answer from Chris. I might just try it tomorrow afternoon. Why not try it too?

 

Hey everyone. Throw a block of wood or something under your stock jack. Problem solved.

 

Yeah, I will try it this week just to know in case i am stranded in the middle of no where. I suppose worst case is i can cut a square block or 2 and keep them under the rear seats too.

yea , but the answer is really no the stock jack is garbage ive got a 3" suspension lift and the jack comes know where close to the frame but ive used wood to correct the problem if you can help it though get a better and taller jack, saftey becomes and issue when cutting corners

 

true, an adequate jack is the right thing.. if can get one then do it

 

Yea, I got a flat while offroading over the weekend... the jack does reach, it went a lot higher than I had expected, but it didn't bring the tire off the ground, I had to use oswego's jack under the lca. I figure a thick block of wood on the bottom would work.

 

I did try it and it doesn't reach. Chris4x4 says it will work so I'm sure it will...I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong. I don't think mine would work with a 2" block.

If you look in the owners manual, you will see where to lift the truck from to change tires, its not on the frame. The bottle jack will work fine for lifting the LCA and rear axle as stated in Manual even with 3" lift.
But a block of wood would work also.

 

Mine will reach the rear pumpkin but not the front 1/2 anywhere. I have a 2.5 in the front and just the tsb in the rear now (not that that matters) and 32's.

 

I picked up a bigger bottle jack from harbor freight to replace my factory jack. Its stronger and lifts higher. make sure you try it out before you actually need it though. the first one I got didnt lift my truck at all, no fluid in guessing, took it back and the second one worked fine.

as for a garage jack I got one of the big orange floor jacks from harbor freight. they also have lightweight (blue) floor jacks that are pretty decent and have cupons for them for like 60 bucks

 

Ok...I looked at the directions printed on the stock bottle jack itself...if you follow those directions, it will not work but I'll have to look at the directions in the owners manual. Sounds like they contradict the directions on the jack.
