I see no point in a 4x2 OR but...a 4x2 is still fairly capable. The big thing with 4x4, at least for me in Colorado is the lower gearing in 4Lo. You don't get that with a 4x2 even if it has a locker. We have some really steep and loose stuff here... on shelf roads. I wouldn't want a 4x2 there. Different stuff works depending on where you drive it. 4x2 can do plenty but it does have limits.

 

Terrain? no not where I live. mountains everywhere and uncountable amount of hills.pretty sure its more common to gauge distance by number of hills than it is miles

So is the 2WD TRD OR the only Taco where you can lock the axle in “hi range”.

I know there is no transfer case. Just interesting to me that it’s like that, but the 4X4 bans you from doing that.

 

Ya they just have a speed limit IIRC for it to engage...under 15mph I think. At least that's how the older Prerunners were. Not sure if they can exceed that once it's locked or if it disengages.

I imagine it stays locked because I can lock mine in 4lo and ride that up to ~25mph or so in 4th gear

I would sell it in California, then travel and buy the truck you want in a more forgiving market. It took me one email to negotiate a Cav Blue 2019 TRD Off Road 4x4 with Tech and Premium for $35,500 before incentives--which I passed on when I settled on the PRO. Factor in the cost of traveling and driving it back, or even the cost of shipping it, and you may be able to somewhat offset your loss.

With some luck you can sell it to another low information buyer that didn't do his/her research.

Nope it stays locked. I know people with 1st and 2nd gens that have bypassed the locker restrictions and driven 50mph+ with a locked rear and no issues, just think you want to be going slow to engage it thats all.

 

Can you even engage the rear locker on an OR 4x2 with no transfer case? Isnt the locker only available in 4L on the 4x4??? Asking for a friend
