Fun / Funny thread. 12 years and going strong.

Buy her gifts she wants, not what you want her to have.

    Make her laugh.

Learn to cook and Feed her yummy food.

And make time to listen, even if pretending.

    Honor the difference in personality.

Let her keep her Identity, and Independence.

And laugh together that's the most important :D

For us it's been 33+ years and a six-year courtship prior to that. I'm not ashamed to say we owe a lot to our religious faith to help keep it together.

    1. Listen to her talk about her day every day. Let her vent. DO NOT try and solve her problems for her. She just wants to talk, not solve it how we would.
    2. If you kill the toilet, clean it.
    3. Talk, talk, talk.
    4. Surprise her with little things. Fill up her car, clean up dinner, etc.
    5. Don't try and do her laundry.
    6. Put clean sheets on the bed.

We celebrated our 40th two days ago. Trust, honesty, communication and respect are all important. There are things that she likes that I’m not too crazy about, but because she likes them, I do them. Most of the time I value her judgement and input. The times that I don’t are the times that we argue. Doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.

I've known her since 02, started dating in 08 married April 2010. I knew what I was getting into. She worked in a paralegal office doing divorces and child support. I can't afford to leave her and don't want to. Either way still happy most of the time. Our biggest disagreements are always when she stresses about money. She starts spending before paying the bills then freaks out.

Make sure to have a spare bedroom. Around the 20 year mark, one of you will need a safe place.

35 years for us, probably thanks to my ugly mug repeling any temptations.

Seriously, just be nice to each other. I've seen people married 50+ years that treated each other like crap. Quantity is not quality.

    Ah, they joys of anonymity......

First secret.. there is NO SECRETS.

10 years back in august, been together 12+.

The first few years were like a manfacturers proving grounds..

My first marraige, and her last relationship were saddled with drugs, and all the issues that come from them(neither of us, our SOs). We each brought a child to the table..... now, all these years later, I adopted her daughter(ahem, MY daughter), and she has been raising my daughter as her own all these years, and now, we have have one together. 3 daughters in total
It took work, the trust, and communication were the most important, and for us, the hardest to build.

She is my best friend, and I hers.

OUR family has to come first. The rest of the family immediatetly after.

Another thing... we both try like hell to set a good example for our girls. I treat her like a woman should be treated. We dont lie, to worry about ego. If I am wrong, i admit it, and vice versa.

There is more.. i could go on all night.

Just remember, yall need to be on the same team. Have her back, and her yours.

About 14 years ago I asked if she thought I was fat. She laughed..loudly.

I told her that's fine, I consider that my lifetime "get out of jail free" card on that question.

I also warned if she ever asks "does this make my butt look fat?" my reply will be "no, your butt IS fat. However, that makes it look fatter..it accentuates the fat!"

    13 married, 16 together.

If you have to choose between yourself and the spouse..put them first.

Respect their life..you are but one part of it.

Have your own life. She gets her girl time. I get to go to concerts. She can't stand metal shows and I'll never make her go, but I take her to see Journey whenever they tour so I can have my indulgences.

Household stuff is best person for the task.

No kids, but we have 4 cats.

Thankfully, we both have... Aligned musical tastes. Punk, metal, etc.

She gets to see more shows than In though (work is a bitch), but, I'm dying to catch the Slayer show in Mansfield this spring.

Wish i made it longer. Be open about money. Thats what destroyed mine. My ex developed a gambling problem. Took me 6 yrs to notice. She was in charge of the money. Found out with a forclosure notice.
