    Guys. I need some of that famous Tacoma world advice on sealing my tailgate where it meets with the camper shell door. I’ve sealed my shell as best as humanly possible but the only place I see water getting in are on the corners where the door meets the shell / tailgate area. Please check the photos and let me know what y’all have done!?

    Is this something I can seal myself or is this a manufacturers issue that I need to return back to LEER? I have no idea why there would be a gap like that, but I guess it’s normal? Or maybe not? :confused:

    I have spent the last few months trying to prevent every little drop of water getting thru mine as I plan on camping in it for long periods of time....this is also the one place I haven't yet fully dealt with, that being said I plan on trying some sort of shield that velcros(maybe) to the side of the cap and kind of just acts as a shield to block the water from my mattress and send it down below my platform

    Make sure to put the adhesive like right on the edge of where it starts to curve.

    Haven't figured out how to seal the corners where the cap meets the top of tailgate. Also didn't see any need to do the bottom of the tailgate.     Thanks for the response. I was thinking of using the garage door sealer to somehow get that gap sealed where the shell door and the tailgate meet. Hoping I can at least minimize the gap. It just look like so much water could get in there, even though people are saying water won’t get in there. I find it funny because if I can see light when looking out, I cannot be convinced that water won’t get in.

    I'd be more worried about dust but I'm in AZ. Closed and sitting in the rain, I don't see rain getting in there unless it's blowing from the side. Driving I'd be surprised if any got in...

    Looks like yours has a contour at the rear hatch... So I could be totally wrong with the rain observation!

    What do you think that contour is from? Is that normal or manufacturer flaw

    for the price you pay for a cheap fiberglass shell, the least they could do is take the time to install it so there are no gaps

    Yeah I figured as much, but I wouldn’t say 2100 is cheap lol.

    Well, 2100 after add-ons. But still I feel like I shouldn’t have to be asking how to seal it, 2 weeks after install :facepalm:

    Well, I'm sure he meant it is cheap to manufacture. I am sure they (the manufacturer and/or installer) could take a minimal hit to their profit margin to ensure it fits as it should.

    Cheap in that the firberglass topper isnt even worth 1/4 of what they charge for them , so if they over charge the heck out of them their installs should be premium workmanship

    Me too. As open as that gap is, the area has not majorly leaked on my cap. Unless I purposely drive water in with a hose. Even car washes don't make it leak too badly. But there's benefit to sealing the tailgate from dust and insulating it fron drafts if your camping inside. Have you sealed the bed rail caps, the gap in the front of the bed, the cubbies, and the gaps in the lower rear of the bed? Those areas are much bigger problems.

    Yes everything was sealed by the installer once I went back and complained, but I honestly don’t think he took the bed rail caps off and sealed under, just on top. And siliconed the corners

    Let us know how you like that weatherstriping tape if you try it. I'll probably do the same thing because I do some winter camping. And hopefully you don't have too much trouble with water coming underneath the bedrail cap. That was a big leak area in my old truck. Sealed my Taco and it hasn't been a problem.
