Thats what the guy who makes the Wheels at Ultra told me. Said due to the -12mm offset that the wheel was acting as a fulcrum on the hub/bearing probably causing the shake. Mentioned getting extended studs and bigger bearings. Was easier to ditch the rims and get the Toyota SEMA rims which have been smooth with the same tires I took of the Ultras which were also on the stock sport wheels that also had no balance issues.

That makes zero sense, lots of people are running lower than stock offsets and wider widths without vibrations. Myself included.

I agree. There is a little possible truth to the statement, but I think it is wrapped around some inaccuracies. The increased offset does have some potential negative effects. It moves the mass further out and could intensify vibrations. It does put more stress on the wheel bearings, but you are not going to fix that with different bearings. I have no clue what difference longer studs would do except make wheels are thicker than stock fit without having to use ET lugs.

love my SCS wheels... 265/70/17 ridge grapplers. going on 2 yrs. not a shake.. not a vibration at all...0 to 90 mph. smooth as can be... id say its one of your tires, did you switch front to back to see if it goes away.. i had a cooper at3 that would not balance, had a bad wobble at 45-60 mph. had it balanced 3 times, garage said it was my tire... they were on sema wheels,, i sold all 5 of them,,,

My bad. I thought for some reason you were working with a Discount Tire retail location. The two locations near me are very professional. Highly recommended.

No Problem. Closest one to me is 2.5 hours away. They're shipping them. Customer service has been awesome to say the least.

@Turd Hawg I am running the exact tire/wheel combo you started with (SR8/265.70.17 Falken AT3W) and I have the same issue. Minor vibration at certain speeds, but predominantly in the 45-65mph range. I purchased mine from @Discount Tire Direct , but had them mounted by a mom/pop shop closer to me. I had the local shop remount/balance the very next day as the vibration was apparent at multiple speed intervals. They were able to resolve some of the vibes, but not enough. I ended up having DT road forced balanced the set. This greatly improved my vibrations, but after several thousand miles it seems to have returned. Unfortunately I feel like douche trying to get a refund/exchange from DT after this many miles. Plus at this point I'm half used to the vibrations and can tolerate it.

Long story short, I think you made the right move by ditching the Falkens. I'm on my second set of SCS wheels and have never had these kind of balance issues until running this tire. Overall they are great performing tires. But I guess you get what you pay for. The general consensus seems to be about 70/30 in the other threads regarding the Falkens (70=good/30=no Bueno). I think yours and my set fell into the 30% category.

i was amazed at the weights on my scs8's and ridge grapplers. just one small weight on 3 tires, and 2 small weights on the 4th tire

I just got a set of ray10’s mounted on 265/75/17 ko2’s by Toyota. After they road test balanced them I had a slight vibration in the rear. Front was perfect. Brought it back to them the next day and they re balanced the rear wheels. Everything is great now. Manager tried saying the wheels were defective. I called bs. Very happy with the setup.

Finally got the nitto ridge grapplers on. Went from the falken 265s to nitto 285s while I was at it. Amazing difference. I had the wheels spun and they were just fine. First impressions on the ride home is that the nittos are much smoother and don’t have any “whomwhomwhomwhom” noise going down the road, even though they are bigger they are much quieter. I also went from 4-6 oz on each falken tire to “balance” them to under an ounce on each nitto.

Glad you were right, and I’m glad I moved to 33’s while I made the swap. Wheel tire combo looks great on this truck
