Is the manual transmission that much better than the auto transmission?

You know, one shouldn't throw stones when living in a glass house.

I bought a manual truck because I wanted a manual truck and I'm not going to argue with anyone about it. Buy what you want, it's your money and your vehicle.

Most auto transmissions bite the dust early compared to the manual transmissions. I’m still
on my original transmission at 580,000 miles with no repairs.

Auto transmission needs a flush that cost 350.00 Done by a dealer.
Manual oil change is just drain and fill for 50.00

    1 of 3 ain't bad. . . :D

I never had a clutch problem in the three cars that we had, about 300k combined. I know the one that we owned longest is still rolling around on the original clutch after it was given to a 16yr old. Swapping the clutch in the Taco, if I ever have to, will be a piece of cake.

Clutch fluid is shared with brakes on the Sports. The squeaky clutch pedal is a nearly free fix with some disk brake grease. Mine has started clicking. It is almost not noticeable compared to say the dash speaker grille squeak before I fixed it.

Clutch lasts 300,000 miles for me, it’s just personal choice, manual you have better control over your gears, if you just cruise an auto is better like my Tahoe

No more Taco. A 2500HD and a Bronco sport

You sound a little salty. Hopefully nobody will call you out over using modern technology to let the world know of your grievances via keystroke. I imagine “back in the day” having to hand-write a letter to let everyone know how you feel was time consuming.

exactly, and this is why my sports car career is over. last one for example had ~25K in mods, and the fact is that i couldn't even approach any kind of limit in that thing in factory spec not to mention the modded version i had, and even on a track it was hard to milk the fun out of it. such a waste and such a diva, talk about boring. now i have a Tacoma setup for all kinds of fun, and i drive around approaching the handling limits all day every day. more fun than your average track day and i'm just going to work!

The post I quoted said there was less MT maintenance. That was my point.

Anyways.....as I said.....I’m a fan of both, but for my configuration Auto is the only option in Canada.

Auto is superior Offroad, all day long....no questions asked, which is nice. Unless you have a crawl box, you will never match the capabilities of an auto Offroad, but you may have more fun and get in more trouble with an MT.

Cruising the paved back roads, I wish I had a MT.

I have a friend that used to race small boats. After the light bulb came on, he gave up boats to get back on a bike. He would laugh that it would take up entire weekends, all day prepping, and such to just get in a couple 3min runs. He'll say that we have more fun riding to see his friend's racing than he did in an entire weekend racing.

It is all a matter of perspective. It took a long time for me to grow up, just a bit, and realize that rowing a Taco was what I was really missing.

    OME and worth every penny.
One thing to remember is that more and more vehicles are getting rid of the option. Don't count on always being able to choose on the Tacoma.

In 10 yrs. we'll be having this conversation about whether we want to manually drive or just buy an auto-pilot model.

1st gear 4 Lo down hill on a OR with a M/T is better. A/T OR needs crawl control to match it.

I’ve driven manual sports cars my entire driving career. After almost 20 years, I really enjoy the auto for daily use. It’s nice to just drive. When I get another weekend car, it will be a manual.

The Ford 10 speed drives very nice. My work truck has one and it’s silky.

it's all a matter of perspective. right on. my young man's driving game has matured with the Tacoma. and part of that is being able to pass sports cars on the outside on a wet road with my AT tires and a zero camber alignment, if you know what i mean. this truck's handling can turn heads if you know how to find it. ;)

some years ago i built a crazy 1970 A-body and i employed a engine builder who was a race champion engine builder for those crazy ass race boats up in PNW. he spec'd and assembled one of those motors for my car, because he gave up boat racing involvement after losing too many friends to the racing, wondering who's gonna die this weekend. and yeah that has nothing to do with anything but i can at least post a pic of it. :alien:
