Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I'd offer another suggestion, buy an sr5 and mod the hell out of it.

    The reason for this is,

If you are going seriously modify (gears and front air locker) then just skip the elocker diff and crawl control, for another air locker.

I've owned 2 3rd gen trd off roads, and a 2nd gen trd offroad.

The next time I buy a tacoma new it will be an sr5 if the trd doesnt come with front locker.

When I bought my truck in 2016 there was no PRO and it was between the SR5 and the OR for me. At the end of the day the main difference for me was that I could afford to pay off the SR5 in 3 years and have some money to mod while the payments for the OR would have needed to be stretched out over 5 years. The plan from the start was to mod and the OR left little room in my budget for that. I really like my Fox 2.5" adjustable coilovers and 2.0" extended travel reservoir shocks with my Dakar medium duty leaf springs. If you are going to mod a decent amount or even lift the truck I'd go OR over PRO. If you aren't financially screwing yourself over for the next few years and want the extra goodies then PRO. Or not. it's your money.

So, go to a dealer that does not charge a market adjustment and enjoy the drive home in your new truck.

Here is a configured SR5 that is still less equipped then the OR. What a waste of money.

Only a waste if you pay MSRP, and who does that? Even crazier who the hell pays over MSRP?

I was noticing the same thing yesterday. Not just one post on this thread, but 1 post ever. Maybe he is a troll from the F150 Ford-Trucks.com forums and wanted to drop a grenade. He seems to have succeeded. So now it is, here a PRO, there a PRO, everywhere a PRO PRO

Yup. These threads are just dumb. It basically turns into a justify your own purchase share time.

Hate non specific topics. Is what it is though.

My SRT Grand Cherokee (that I'm trading in) was hella expensive. $950 /mo. I can afford it, however a TRD Pro in my case will be a downgrade in payments so win win, think it should be $700 when all said and done (after trade-in and down pay)

You are missing the point. I was comparing the SR5 to OR and it is not much cheaper and you get a lot less options then the OR. Why would someone buy an SR5? I just don't see it.

I’m not missing the point, go into a dealership and see the discount you can get on an SR5 vs an Off-road. And if you pay MSRP or higher you’re a terrible negotiator or just throw money away for no reason. Stop looking at MSRP like it matters, the only price that matters is what you pay when you sign. I will agree though that I don’t understand the SR5 trim, it’s just cosmetic upgrades and they ask a lot more than an SR.

Well, if the dealer is giving a 5% discount on both then they will roughly stay together on the ladder of pricing. But you are right if they give $5k off the OR and $10K off of the SR5 then it is not even close. But for the PRO, they are not coming down on that, maybe a couple of places, maybe.
