Mustang is listed as 310 HP and 350 Torque. So the new Ranger has room for a tune.

I have a feeling the numbers were toned down for reliability reasons. The Tacoma's 3.5 variants can produce higher numbers in Lexus vehicles and it was toned down also.

Probably toned down due to the intended use of the vehicle. The great thing about it is Ford does not guard their programming so there are multiple tuning options and free software that allows you to add options that weren't on your vehicle when you bought it.

It also leaves room for an "updated" engine in a year or two with a little more power...especially if the ones pushing the lower numbers aren't blowing up.

Too damn big, kills the main reason people want a ranger...I just don't get it. Where are the small trucks?

EPA (and to a lesser extent safety standards) killed the small work truck (ye ole 5 lugger type trucks).

For the EPA... Would the lighter truck not get better fuel economy?

And by that logic, why make small cars? They still do... Somewhat lol

To be honest, I am a standard transmission driver, have been for over a decade, spent 6 months looking for a manual Tacoma... I can't get over the fact that it only comes in am automatic. I thought 10 speed was cool until I saw it was automatic.

Yes an no. Problem can be summed up with the epa for the same reason why regular cabs were killed off. EPA has weird requirements for vehicles with arbitrary specs... like wheelbase. The regular cab tacomas fell under a wheelbase tier that put them needing something like 35+mpg (similar to a small compact car thats MUUUUUUCH more aerodynamic than a truck).

Also, people (general population) these days want bigger and bigger, more comfort etc etc. Very VERY few are represented by us who would love a 1st gen tacoma sized truck with a modern drivetrain.

The ford 10 speed is pretty damn bad ass.... yall have bad tastes in your mouth with the toyota 6 speed auto in the 3rd gens.... ford got that 10 speed down damn good with its programming and gear spacing.

I just prefer a manual is all. Shifting is like breathing to me - natural.

Needless to say the new ford ranger is VERY welcomed to the "mid sized" truck market in my book.

It's a Ford. Time will tell. I say, look back at what they've been building, not just what is coming out now. Rangers from the 2000s are always in the shop. Tacomas from that same era get brake jobs and oil changes

Tacoma World should sponsor a new Ranger build.
