Do you guys use these? Are they even necessary? I know you will lose your radio presets if you don’t have one when you disconnect your battery , but if one doesn’t care about those, is it still recommend for other potential issues.

No. Just change it. I’ve swapped batteries with the engine running before. (Honda)

I have also on older vehicles, just didn’t know if that was a safe practice on newer vehicles with sensitive computer modules.

It might run like crap for a couple miles but that’s about it.

If you have a battery charger, you could connect it to the battery cable clamps. That'll provide power to keep all system memory while you change the battery.

Alls I have is a ctek smart charger, I’m not so sure it would give a constant voltage. It may I just don’t know.

Seems like a good oportunity to clean the throttle body and MAF sensor, then change your battery and let the ECU relearn.

I swapped my battery and didn't lose any of the stereo presets if that's what you're worried about.

I remember seeing somebody place the new battery close and then use some small wire clips to hook it up in parallel, then they quickly removed the other battery and moved the new one into place

Yea, you can get a little device That uses a 9 volt battery and plugs into the power port or cig lighter.
Since it doesn’t effect the ecu memory and maybe only the radio presets and trip meter, I’m not going to get one.

That won't work on these trucks since the power port and cigarette lighter sockets are only powered when the key is on.

I think if you turn everything off so you don’t drain the little 9 volt battery, get everything ready to switch the 12 volt truck battery, already have the 9 volt device plugged in and ready to go, then just reach in and turn the key to accessories, and then change the battery. That’s just what I read anyway.

I’m not going to worry about it when the time comes. Just change it .
