Well I've had my new 2009 Tacoma TRD access cab for exactly two weeks now. I love it, it's beautiful, and in perfect condition, well it was anyway.

Today I was driving west on the interstate doing 70 mph. Next thing I know I see a large dumptruck going eastbound flipping towards me. I slam on the brakes and come to a stop. If the truck would have rolled one more time it would have been on top of me. I got very lucky as did the driver of the dumptruck since he walked away even though he was ejected from the truck.

Well now the bad part. The truck through it's load, large gravel, all over my truck. The windshield has numerous chips and two large cracks. The bumper, grill, hood, fender, roof, door, access door, side of the bed, driverside window, and one spot on the back of the cab all have dings, chips, scratches, and scuffs all over them. Two wheels, a headlight, and the bed rails have chips and scratches as well.

Needless to say I'm not happy. I hate to say it but I really don't want to have to pay on a truck for six years that needs this much body work due to someone else. It just doesn't seem fair. The truck only as 600 miles on it.

I would post pics but I'm on my iPhone. I won't be able to upload pics until Sunday.

So any guesses on how much damage the truck has and what his insurance company will do about it? They told me not to worry about it and that they will take care of it. I'm just not sure how they will take care of it.

sorry to hear of your troubles man. damage like that..........the insurance company may end up totaling out...which would be good in your case. that would be alot of bodywork to just fix the truck.

Sucks to hear that but, wow glad you're ok. Make sure his companies (or his) insurance pays for it all though, and let your ins company know so they can work with them... being a company truck they should get you 100% squared away. Seeing as there is a lot of damage from the description... there's a small chance it'll be totaled out but I highly doubt it.... still probably cheaper than the 70% value or whatever it is they go with these days. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

Wow, sounds like someone was look'n out for you. Glad you're OK. From your description it sounds like it was mostly aesthetic damage, so you shouldn't have to worry about it driving differently after the repairs. That's alot of body work, but the other guys insurance company should take care of it.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the insurance company to total your vehicle. They will fix it only!

Damn if that happened to me I'd have to worry about getting the new stain out of the drivers seat. Someone was watching out for you!

Get it fixed and look at it this way: you got the initial new car wreck part over. You'll probably go 20 years before you get in a wreck again.

First and foremost, glad to hear you and the driver are OK!! What a horrible experience to have to go through. When you were describing the accident, I cannot even imagine what must have been going through your mind seeing this thing flippin over at you. Holy

As you said, doesn't seem fair but wish you the best in getting it fixed to your satisfaction somehow.

From dealing with insurance companies I can tell you that they won't total it. Talk to friends and family about body shops that do the best work in your area. My 95 Tacoma was in perfect condition when it took a big hit. The body shop that I had fix it did such a good job that it looked like nothing had ever happened to it. The body work and paint job was incredible. Only take it to the best body/paint shop that has the best reputation and you'll end up smiling in the very end. Good Luck with your search.

^^^What he said. Anyone can make a fresh paint job look good but 5 years down the road will often tell a much different story. You're not paying for it so get THE BEST shop you can find.

    Sorry about your luck.

:p Yeah, no more worrying about having to park it far away in the parking lot to avoid people from dinging your doors now.

Good to hear you came out ok. Too bad about the truck, but at least it's fixable.

Thanks everyone. I went to get an estimate this morning. They came up with $6,400 in damage. Have to meet with the adjuster still to see what he has to say.
