I wanted to thank you for the tutorial on the wiper mod and cruise control. I bought two 2017 SR work trucks and was floored when I realized that intermittent wipers was not included. I tolerated it with our 2005 Tacoma but it should be included on a newer vehicle.

Curious what other mods you’ve done on your SR?

I initially followed these directions and, using the ebay link provided, installed cruise on my new SR in June. It worked for a few months, then the "cancel" function quit working, then the "decrease speed" quit, then eventually all functions other than "on and off" quit.
I just ordered (and received) another cruise stalk from the same ebay guy and installed it and everything is working again. I checked the old part and everything was plugged in properly.
Right now, i chalking it up to a failure of the (first) cruise stalk, but I thought it is worth sharing here.
Just a datapoint, not a complaint.

Just did the Cruise Mod... Awesome!!! Great write up! I will say that it is necessary to have some sort of magnet to get those two bolts pulled out. Also, when I restarted the truck for the first time post mod it died but started right back up. It took about a mile for the cruise and the computer i guess to work out any bugs and start working in tandem.

DON'T FORGET TO BUY THE PLASTIC COVER! Like I did the first time.

It works great on the 2017, both the cruise control and the intermittant wiper switch! Great write up..............

At the link mentioned, the price of the cruise control switch is now $72 and the cutout cover for the switch lever is $7 to $8. It would appear that the cruise switch doesn't come with the screws to install it. The post above did say that screws come with the cutout, but that makes no sense. The diagrams provided by the E-Bay seller list all kinds of parts so if I didn't know what the part I needed looked like, I would be at a loss with the diagrams the seller provides which have no explanation.

I did see an installation where you can take the original cover and drill a hole in it.

No Dice ... I tried the cheapo switch and wire from eBay, but it didn’t work on my 2013 reg. cab, auto. Then I picked up the OEM parts, hooked them up,...still no cruise light on the instrument panel. I’m wondering if my truck is missing something in the chassis harness for this option. Anybody experiencing the same problem?

Awesome write up,this and the wipers. I see the ebay link for the cruise control assembly still works but the plate with the screws does not have any to purchase, any other links for that part?

$17 and 5 minutes later, I have cruise control. Many thanks!

Was worried that it would be complicated because I have a manual transmission and searched all over for 3rd gen info to see if I needed a clutch switch. I finally realized the OP has a 5spd and was all plug and play (no clutch switch needed to be added - guess it’s there as pressing on the clutch will cancel the cruise)

Hey man nice write up, I have one question?
I have a 2017 SR utility, will there cruise mod work in my rig? The only difference I see between my stock and your stock rig is the bumper paint and I have an automatic transmission.

It's probably all prewired for it. Pull those two torx nuts on the wheel and you'll see the plug. Takes a couple of minutes. - buy the part used off eBay and if it doesn't work, you're out $16.

Add me to the list of folks that sincerely appreciate your excellent instructions. I've never had a truck with cruise control before but since others seem to like it I thought I would give it a go. I have to drive from Colorado to California several times a year and I can easily imagine it being awesome to give my right leg a break.

Thanks for the write up. Took me a total of 10 min for the cruise control and I took my sweet time. Much appreciated.

So I was able to order the cover for the switch, but it didn't come with the screws. Has anyone figured out which screws these are and whether or not you can buy them at a hardware store? That being said, awesome write up, hope I can get the parts to make this work!

I did the cruise mod tonight on my 2017 SR Utility 2.7/5MT. The switch I bought was $18.99 on Amazon and had the wire harness and screws. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F14CZS3?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

$10 Cover from ebay also had the switch screws.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/201813078165

Install was extremely easy. I went out to the garage at 7:55 and moved my wife's car out, my truck in, changed the switch and put my tools up, her car back in, had driven the truck down the road to test it and was back in the house by 8:15.

The only minor hassle I had was getting the airbag/horn button down while getting both captured screws in place. I just reached in and grabbed the plastic screw holders and pulled them gently outward to allow the airbag to slip into place. No problem. Don't know why I waited so long to do this. Super, super easy.
