seal between fender flare and body

THe rubber seal between my fender flare and body, keeps coming out. I cant get it to say in. Its coming out on the drivers side really bad in the front. and sorta bad in the back.

Any suggestions to fix it?
ANy body else having this problem?
Mine is a 2001 Prerunner with the black(not color matched) flares?

 

you may want to try some type of epoxy.......should hold it in place pretty good.

 

Any short of glue should do. Arnt there automative glues that are made for the elements and abuse.

 

i ripped mine off lol but glue should do it

I think you can still buy a new seal from Toyota not that much money to replace.

 

Automotive "goop" will fix it. Try to get some underneth and tape it in place overnight...a couple days even better. If some beads out from the edges, wait till after it drys and use a single edge plastic razor blade/scrapper to remove.

Thanks for the help guys but i just went and looked at it and it must have blown out today so i guess i need to get a new one.

 

I have the same problem on my 2003 Tacoma. The weatherstripping between the body and the front driver's side plastic flare flails all over the place at speed.

I've been searching on how the flares are attached so I can loosen it and re-seat the rubber strip then tighten it back down. That seams like the better way to do it.

Would I have to remove the wheel well liner in order to access the fasteners that hold the flare in place? And I gather there are clips that break off easily when trying to separate the flares from the body, can anyone confirm that for an '03 sr5 xtracab? It'd great if I didn't have to order any parts, lookin to get it done today?

Those seals are attached w/adhesive tape from factory. If you cant glue em back, new ones are about $15.18 each (p/n 53851-35061). Just make sure all is clean before you stick em again (no dirt/dust, armor-all, etc). You might also try some 3m weatherstrip adhesive too. I would stay away from epoxy

Some models just have the flares stuck on and some models actually have clips. I believe its just the Pre-2001's that just have the flares glued on, but it might also be a certain trim option.

As far as the clips, ya. You'll break most of them. There are also 4 or 5 screws holding the flare on.

You can see the anchor points for the clips in the attached pic.

 

There is a thin, rubber seal between the fender & flare. I believe thats what OP is talking about? There are no flares that just stick-on without clips (from factory) for 2001

 

I have a 2000 Prerunner and a 2000 SR5. Does anyone know for sure if the 2000 Tacoma uses clips or glue on the wheel flares.??? From looking at my Prerunner I can't tell for sure but I want to try and put the same flares on my SR5. I have the 2000 FS Manuals and they are not much help

 

Toyota changed the solid fiberglass flares in the 2001 redesign to thicker plastic ones, so I don't think the parts will be intercompatible. As far as I can tell the 95-00 model years just attach under the wheel well without clips (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

 

On my 01 they were coming out so I pulled them all off. No issues....

 

I tried weatherstrip glue (a type of contact cement) a few times on my '01 and it never held well. Seems like double-sided 3m tape would be hard to get in there without removing the flares.
