Product Suggestion For Travel

aye everybody!

So I’m going to be traveling next week and will be going thru some areas with rain/snow.

I do not have a cover or shell for my truck, nor do I want one. I’m looking for a large bag or bags that are waterproof and capable of covering a few suitcases and a large dog crate however the dog crate is 8 inches high, 41 inches long and 30 inches wide.

The dog is traveling with us in the cab and there is no room to put anything in there with us.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank y’all!

That must be one short, but long and wide dog...

 

Get a box of XL hefty bags and double up the bags per suitcase and duck tape them to seal. Unless you plan on leaving them out for days in the rain/snow that should hold up and keep things dry

 

Or a turtle!


I say cram the kennel full of gear, wrap it in a tarp and go!

Although on second thought, your turtle kennel won't hold much gear...

 

heavy duty hefty black garbage bags, multiple ones around each suit case with a free Harbor Freight tarp thrown over them. There are really good products like seal bags that are heavy duty and will survive being dragged behind the truck but they're pricey and you just need them to survive the trip there and back for cheap.

Maybe think about installing d rings on the bed floor of your truck to help secure your load and prevent the suitcases and bags from flapping too much.

it can warm up or even cook food and if you use the loaf pan liners it's quick and easy to clean while driving. Eating truck stop or fast food while driving is terrible and eating cold prepped foods from home is just as terrible. However, warm prepped meals are delicious. Sorry for the rant, just suggestions

 

Quality trash bags and duct tape. I use them for waterproofing all the time.
If that is beneath you then go get some dry bags. Cost you several hundred dollars for that option.

And as far as the crate and dog lol. It’s a collapsible crate that goes down to 8 inches. Lol.

 

Go to your closest Walmart, buy a large tarp, wrap it over and underneath your stuff, call it a day.

I know, I know, I'm a fucking genius.

 

Is the dog also collapsible? Might help even more

I'm not a fan of tarps because they flap around too much at Interstate speed. At least the cheap ones from Walmart and Harbor Freight do. If you can get find some heavy duty rubberized canvas tarps, like semis use, that may be ideal.

 

I always used SUV boxes. Waterproof and lockable in case you want to stop for lunch. I could usually find them at wally world or northern tool for around 30 bucks, or at least that was the price 15 years ago. I've used them for everything from organizing the camp/scuba/bike/hike gear, to keeping the Thanksgiving dinner dry on the way to grandmas house. They have kept my pillows and linens dry in driving rains, and it's easier to pack on the return trip than double-wrapped hefty bags. . If you foresee hauling luggage in the bed more than once in the ownership of your truck, these are a worthy investment.
