I'm actually in 2D. I have a few places near me. I would think we should be able to get a doe anyhow. I have access to some private and some public land that works out pretty well. I have a good group of guys for the flintlock season as well. We get them moving, just a matter of getting the smoke pole to go off the first time! I swapped touch holes last time I shot, and it seemed to get rid of the hang fire issue I was having. Goes off like a rifle now.

I always tap on the opposite side of the pan after putting powder in. Seeems to help pack it into the hole, resulting in quicker ignitions.

I usually do the same. I also upgraded to a hex key instead of the flat screwdriver style. I like it a lot better. I've been playing with a combination of 3F and 4F for the pan. 4F is so fine it will fall out while driving. 3F straight lead to quite a few hang fires. Hoping a mixture will be the key. If not I'll just have to prime the pan throughout the drive. Missed a nice doe last year because it wouldn't go off. I only had about a 1/4 pan after driving for a little over an hour on river hills.

I have the hex as well. I don’t drive them, so 4F works for me.

Good luck. I hope the weather holds up for the season.

Good luck to you as well. Last season was a bit chilly. I think we were around -20 for the 2 weeks I could get out to hunt. We had a bunch of deer and the rifles were firing really well in it. Trying to get through 5 layers to take a piss on the other hand I could go without.

I’m trying to get the boy out with me, so normal temps and no rain would be awesome.

I've got a few years before that. He is only 3, but he gets really mad when I go hunting and he cant go shoot deer too. I could go for some decent temps and no rain or precipitation as well. I haven't gotten anything to cover the frizzen and pan, but took an old hunting sock last year and sprayed silicone on it. I cut the toes out and just slide it over everything. I haven't had any issues with moisture, but it isn't ideal when one jumps up under your feet. It is big enough to just pull it back and open everything up, but I caught the screw that holds my flint last year on the last drive. I get it untangled in time to get a shot. Not sure why I love it so much, it is frustrating most of the time. Something about the primitive way that speaks to me though.

Thanks for the responses to my question about the fumoto valve. Anyone have any input as to the F103N vs. F103S? One appears to have a longer nipple. I know @M192 mentioned that he cut his shorter for wheeling. I'm wondering if the short should be considered? I have some skids, so it would be somewhat protected. At least what 3/16ths steel will hold up to. I don't have much experience with wheeling hard, but it is in the plans in the next couple of years.
