It was in my 2017 trd pro 4 runner owners manual. May be in the 18 too. Just search 2017 Toyota 4 runner owners manual online and go to specifications. Once you get pass the CAFE compliance language(0w20..is recomended but you must use 0w20..) it is below that.

I haven't used it in years, I can get MOBIL1 and Pennz oil with rebates too good of a deal. I would use the Havoline if its on hand and a 0w20 with the SAE stamp is as good as any other

Glad to hear. I’ve been using mobile 1 but I can’t get it here in Lebanon. It’s either havoline, or mag1. I found a castrol 0w20 but it was a blend and not full synthetic.

Yup. It was supposed to arrive today, but the container ship had to make a stop in Egypt so it’s arriving Sunday. Then there’s 3-5 days for processing and customs. I’m just praying they don’t mangle my baby or steal all the cool stuff Inside of it.

Good Luck! First rule of shipping out of country is to NOT have anything easy to steal. Found that out when a friend of mine shipped in his VW from Germany. Arrived with all stuff in the trunk gone and radio gone.

Don't remember, but they were careful when removing his high priced speakers, etc. The problem is that no one will take responsibility for missing stuff because of the multi country handling. Hopefully you will OK but prepare yourself.

Damn! That sucks. Yeah the shipping company I’m going through keeps telling me not to worry and that they will have someone watching customs when they search it. I’ll emotionally prepare myself just in case.

Both 5w30 and 0w20 have very similiar properties. The "protection" from the oil comes from its high temperature high shear value (HTHS) and is reported in megapascals (mPa). That is looking at the oil's ability to flow through narrow passages at operating temperatures (tested at 150 celsius). The cutpoint for HTHS is 3.5 mPa. HTHS below 3.5 would be a low viscosity, above 3.5 would be high viscosity for the sake of simplicity.

Both 0w20 and 5w30 have shear values below 3.5mPa so, are would be both called low viscosity. And they are only .4mPA different from each other (0w20 at 2.7mPa and 5w30 at 3.1 mPa) So, they are NOT that different from each other. Would assume that would also mean, they don't offer that much different shear protection from each other. Paper published in 2016 states that HTHS calculations have about 10% to 12% error range. So, for a 3.1 mPa fluid, it's actual HTHS can be 2.8 or 3.4 mPa. not much different from the 2.7mPa of 0w20 which may actually run between 2.4 and 3.0 mPa based on that same measurement error. The big issue in any level of science is that we assume the measures we get are absolute truths. But everything is prone to measurement error. when we factor measurement error in to the picture, the similiarity between HTHS of 0w20 and 5w30 are evident.

The actual density of 5w30, and 0w20 are also very similiary.

    I use 0w20.

    I do laugh when I put 0 w 40 in wife's car, and 0w20 in my truck.

This is not a new argument. 16 years ago, there was the same argument with respect to honda accord 4 cylinder engines. manufacturer said put 5w20, people wanted to put 5w30. I put 5w20 in my 2002. Neighbor has a 2003 accord with 180k miles on it currently on 5w20 and engine still runs like a charm. My buddy in virginia ran 5w30 in his 02 Accord and sold it at 90k miles with no engine issues. Who knows.

Parents have a 2004 Honda Odyssey 3.5 V6, supposed to be using 5w20 in that as well. Dad never worked on his cars. various lube shops put 5w20, 5w30 over the last 14 years. Thing still runs great. Engine outlived him. Mom's in Brooklyn and drives it like a bat out of hell (apparently more so in the last few weeks of his life) and that thing still runs so quietly.

Funny thing is, don't see anyone in the Audi forums arguing about using 5w30 instead of 0w40 to save mpg's. Their big argument posts are catch can vs no catch cans and sea foam or not sea foam.

    Also another question, guys.

My truck takes 6.2 quarts. Can I just put 6 or does the .2 matter?

    Thanks

You should have about 1.5 qts between the low and full mark on the dipstick, so 6 should put you well into spec.

Run an oil with a proper viscosity for the temperatures the engine will endure. Below is the owner's manual for the GCC region Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series. The 3UR and 1UR V8 engines are both spec'd for 5W30 and up, while here in North America we see the same 0W20 recommendation.

Interesting. I guess that makes sense.
