Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I'm going to make it safe and revert on every visit just in case they pull a sneaky on me.

 

I've been in several times for a variety of issues since installing
the tune (I've had all versions from the start) and I've never changed it.

 

I agree with you, if you go in for a tire rotation it's very unlikely that they'll hook up thechstream, but for some other symptoms the might. I just wanted to know why Ovtune changed the ECU ID, he replied and I accept his answer.

 

That's because it cannot be detected. With the 1.05 version its now detectable!

 

@OVTune , If on 1.05 , and the engine goes into limp mode or will not start on the side of the road etc. , will we still be able to flash back to stock so the dealer cannot detect a change ?

Why would this happen?
Yes you can always flash back to stock.

 

Sure, if you have your laptop or handheld with you.

 

Also, unless you are getting some serious work warranties I don't see it being necessary to flash to stock. Toyota can make any argument they want about mods or how it impacts the drivetrain, yeah well all you need to do is be confident. Tons of dealers install stuff on brand new trucks that can harm the drivetrain, like lifts, bigger tires, etc that screw with the tach and shift points.

any dealer gives anyone fuss I'll gladly provide a data filled novel on their stock tunes stumbling detonating mess to provide to corporate. Considering the enormous amounts of complaints about this trucks driving, stumbling, misfiring etc that are documented all over the place online, I don't think anyone will run into trouble.

I'd say rule of thumb is, if you have some major warranty work being done or have codes you need them to address, flash to stock (the last Toyota provided calibration you had on your truck - which may not be what you consider STOCK from the moment you bought it if you had TSBs applied...).

Oil changes, tire rotations, regular preventative maintenance I wouldn't (and won't) worry about it. Worse case I see is they flash over the tune but this gives far more credit to most dealers than they deserve. They'll do what they always do. Hook up to the OBD2 port, see if there are codes. As my dealer has told me multiple times (when I actually DID have problems they wouldn't address) ... "no codes, no problems"

Well put. I had my truck at the dealer today on 1.04r 93. They said your truck seems to run a lot better than the other Tacoma we've driven. I said huh. Imagine that lol

haha, that's awesome. the tech that worked with me the last time I was
there said the same - I run 1.03/93oct. He asked if I did anything, I said
yeah, I only use 93 oct.

 

I would think it would be safe to run the 93 tune with 91 gas. At our elevation it seems like all of our gas is 2 ticks lower across the board. If a cars owners manual states to use 87, it has been proven to be okay to use 85.

I’ve seen many other stations across the country that have their levels go 87,89,93
Colorado’s is 85,87,91.

To me it seems logical that it would work. It would be great to have Mat chime in though.

 

I'm in colorado also. But i'm not doing that without input from mat.

 

So flash to the stock tune that will come with 1.05 before going to the dealer

The dyno charts posted are from the very beginning of the tune, it's fair to say most of us would love to see some 1.05 87/91/93 tune graphs overlayed!
