Spacers do preload the springs but with such a small spacer, it's hardly noticeable.
Heavy, stiff tires will make the ride more harsh than a small spacer ever would.
I ran my M/Ts at around 30 psi, if I remember right. That helped but they were E rated.
The AT2s are lighter and more compliant but I still run them at 30. Truck runs smooth.

I'm not going to shame you for a spacer lift, but you're double talking here. Your title states "how the Pro should have come", but then you say this is a "temporary means to an end"... If it's a means to an end, Toyota should just slap the Billies on the Pro, since they'll be replaced eventually anyhow.

I meant more the stance. They could have made the springs taller from the factory. But really the tires is the weak point on the stock pro's imo. Just think for the premium and the fact that they equipped it to be as capable as possible, that the tires were a weak choice.

Hey man, what do I know. I drive a trd off road 2wd and live in phoenix and rarely ever see the dirt. The most use I get out of the truck is helping free loading friends move. Haha.

Fair enough. However, I'll play devils advocate...

    • Plenty of people don't want the truck any taller (parking garages, short wives, short husbands, children, etc). Also, where do you stop? 1", 2", 3"...

    • Mud terrains are not a great choice for every day driving. As another member commented, MT's aren't great in the rain. I agree, a more aggressive AT would be great, but the GY Kevlar's are already a step up from the sport, SR5 and Limited. Where's the limit?

Keep in mind, Toyota has to balance the truck for the wide range of consumer. They've also seen through past years, no matter what they "upgrade" a Pro with, true "modders" will rip it off and mod it to their taste/need. The truck sells without them lifting a finger, so don't expect them to.

True, I just was used to the jeep world. When i bought my Rubicon in 06 it came with Mud terrains. Just think if youre paying a premium for what toyota calls "the most off road capable tacoma ever built" the buyers would be more about taking them off road. Unfortunately, there is a large number of them that will only ever mall crawl. But i get what you're saying.

You need taller bump stops. If you hit a rock or big pothole the uptravel is reduced with top hat spacers. The shock itself will collapse completely then suffer the impact. That's why the skinny bilsteins break.

Still not good for the shock. Those bad boy foxes will fail in one way or another as well.

Have no issues with spacers brother...The issue is you didn’t increase the height of the factory bump stops to accommodate the additional height gained from the spacers that’s why the shock will eventually fail if you decide to exercise it’s full travel.

People are ignorant around here. Some even hate trucks that drive like trucks. Funny how all those soccer moms with their mall-queen Rubicons can put up and not complain about factory MT tires but these men driving trucks make a big deal about it. “Ooh no my MPGs! Ooh no so much noise”. Lol wtf. If you are worried about MPGs and road noise then you are not serious about taking that truck off-road. You bought the OR because tacomaworld told you to.

A 1.5” spacer lift on the Fox shocks is entirely inconsequential if you do not need the travel at this time. The rear is an AAL! The entire kit is like $350. Some people spend more than that on a decal package.

Cult mentality is strong here. Anyone doing something different will be torched.

Enjoy your truck and ignore the douchebags. I rather you keep contributing to the community, which is constructive unlike what the rest of these clowns do.

I think it also is worth saying that if you are paying extra for the Pro why turn around and do temporary in between fixes. Hell you could’ve saved you money and just bought an “inferior hater model” like a measly Off-Road and modding that and saved tons of dough.

Truck looks decent in the vid but you could’ve saved time and money buy just buying the Kings to start with. Nobody is jealous of you Pro but your video leaves room for people to wonder what you are thinking.

Hopefully you can get it on a better set up so you can have it the way you actually want the truck and do another vid then.

Also if you try and sell the Fox set up on here, the video is evidence of potential excessive load on the fronts. Just sayin.

this makes sense. i guess the statement that it should have come from the factory like that got the haters all excited. actually i'm not even sure.
but not this. if you haven't seen the change you just haven't pushed into where it is.

    Yeah.
Yeah, since the spacer is between the spring and top hat, and not just on top of the top hat, the shock is running a bit more extended. The Fox shocks have damping zones, and this changes the starting point of the shaft. So, there is going to be a change in how the damping works. How much, who knows? Need a drawing.

Yeah but that's because he sells his different stuff to us. If he was doing all those cool mods without selling it to us, we would have to burn him at the stake based on principle. Mostly due to jealousy.

Exactly, you don’t know. He drove it without the spacers, then he drove it with the spacers. He claims no discernible change in how it performs. He has empirical data which is more than what you have.

If you are willing to provide a drawing, provide instead the specifications on the damping zones for the shock absorber in question and how that 1.5” lift affects its performance. In fact, I’ll set the bar lower. Provide empirical data for how it performs with and without it countering his claim. Otherwise, all you have to offer is conjecture.
