Can’t decide: New TRD OR 6sp or used SR with 5spd

So, trying to decide between an 2017 SR access cab 4x4 5sp with 24k miles or a new 2019 OR 6spd - new is always nice but there’s definitely appeal on the simplicity of the SR and the $12k price difference.

I know it’s largely a personal decision but any thoughts are appreciated.

 

Test drive both and pick the one you like better.

 

As an owner of a 6 speed TRD OR (admittedly a 2nd gen) but I'd buy the 5 speed SR if I could do it over.

 

I’ve driven both - both are fine trucks, same color too.

 

The 6 speed in the 3rd Gen is way better than the 2nd Gen, shifts so much smoother.

 

Agree, I had a 13' 6spd and as much as I liked having a manual it always seemed like it needed shifting

 

There's nothing wrong with my transmission, the squeaky clutch of course and the wonky gearing, but it runs fine. I think the RA60 is a very smooth transmission compared to the W56 in my last truck and probably better than the R155 in the SR.

 

Agreed, absolutely nothing wrong, was just pointing out that it is upgraded in the 3rd Gen and it is noticeably better. Lube the pivot points on the pedal with Disc Brake Grease and it will get rid of the old barn door noise.

 

Is there a 3rd truck in automatic he is looking at or am i misunderstanding the thread?

 

The squeak isn't the pedal on mine, its the throw out bearing.

If you can afford the new TRD, that would be
my choice, but only you can make that call.

 

Both are manuals - I want a MT, have had several.

 

Ouch, well that is a little more difficult to fix, maybe time for an upgrade

 

There's a reason why someone dumped that SR at 24k.

Also, I’ll put about 25k miles per year on it as I make a 3 hour drive (each way) on the weekends.

 

The MPGs probably would not differ too much between those 2 if that matters to you

 

I have 78,000 miles on my 17 PRo. Love it. I have 2,800 miles on my 18 SR. Love it.

If I had to choose one, I would keep the SR. Reason being, the SR is an honest truck. For $22,500 it is a deal of the century and will last me 200K miles with nary a maintenance headache.

The PRO is in a hard place. If you go to a restaurant, unless you have a Raptor you don't get front parking spot. No one respects the PRO. It isn't $90,000 like the baller trucks, and it isn't on the cheap end. Its stuck like a middle child, no one cares to have sex with, unless they are desperate. Everyday on the forum us PRO owners get beat down. Only so much a human can take. Why pay the premium for it?

The SR isn't pretentious. It is a mexican gardeners truck. Perfectly fine, and I love it.

 

Why did the guy I bought mine from dump his V6, 6MT, TRD OR at 40k then?

 

I dumped my OR 2016 6MT DCSB, at 3,800 miles for my 6MT PRO. People dump things for many reasons. We can't sit and wonder about that.

 

The 5 speed isn't available anymore.

The 4cyl engine 5 speed are Japanese imported, and probably will last "forever" with proper maintenance.

If you change your mind, you will probably have an easier time selling the 5 speed truck, imo.

Do what you think is best.
