They have a few CB bottles at my local Total Wine. Looks like you have a good selection yourself!

The only one out of that lineup that I haven't had is the Hedonism The Muse. The regular Hedonism is really nice stuff, though.

That No Name is crazy peated/smoky.

I paid $140 for my Flaming Heart. I'm a little miffed, now .

Trying something different. Never tried this Jameson before..
The Southern Star is a new distillery that opened up just down the road. Tried some of their Rye earlier and just now sipping on this bourbon..
Always nice to try something different..

Would you say it's very peaty or...? Taste like bandaids/iodine or campfire/smoke?

I don't have a lot (read: any) experience with peat, but my instinct is to say it is extremely peaty. I usually drink bourbon, but wanted to branch out.

It has a flavor profile and nose that I've never experienced before. Nose is like campfire ashes, and a bit of a medicinal, iodine like smell. Strangely appealing to me!

The nose is so strong that even after finishing the half nip I poured into my shot glass, I could smell it from 2 feet away for 30 minutes.

Yup, that sounds like peat alright! I have half a bottle of Lagavulin 16 that I might need to have some of this weekend.

Oh yeah. It's very peaty for sure. That is Ardbeg's schtick, so I wouldn't expect any less!

Perfect description. I have the Ardbeg Corryvreckan and the Ardbeg Grooves. The Grooves is a little more mellow, but that Corryvreckan smells like a smoldering piece of mesquite was dropped in the bottom of the bottle. Like you, I'm oddly attracted to the stuff as well :D.

It is pretty bold. I don't know how much my enjoyment of the stuff is because of the taste and how much is because of how crazy it is.

Not surprised about the fake stuff. Counterfeits run rampant through the rare wine community. It's only natural that the rare whiskey community would get hit, too.

It is a big issue with Pappy Van Winkle. The reason empty bottles sell for hundreds of dollars is primarily because of counterfeiters using the empties to refill/reseal and pass off as the real deal. People that finish bottles of Pappy are encouraged to damage/destroy the bottle for that reason.

Another heavyweight in the peat realm!

Had some of the boys over last night and we tried all of these.

Flaming Heart is absolutely fantastic. Peated, but not overly so. The Midwinter Night's Dram is so good. One of the three best whiskies on the nose I've ever experienced and the subtle port barrel influence on a really good rye is excellent.

Talisker Distiller's Edition is really great and should be about $90. Peated, but finished in Sherry casks, so it picks up some very light floral/dried berry notes. It has a bit of saltiness to it as well. It is one of the most universally loved scotches in my group.

I'm having a pour at the bar at the moment. When I get home I'll offer up a couple more ;).

If you want similar strong peat to Ardbeg, the Lagavulin 16 is super tasty. Or the Port Charlotte heavily peated by Bruichladdich. Both are delicious. Talisker isn't quite as strong in the peat/smoke Dept. but still up there and has a distinctly salty note to it that I feel is Talisker's unique thing. All are great whiskeys.

Then of course, there's the Octomore line if you want the strongest peat in the world. :burp:

Edit: another worthy mention, Lagavulin distillers edition has some neat green apple notes to it. But might be slightly over $100, like 110 or so...used to be 90... :( Of everything here though, Taliskers distillers edition you will definitely love.

i am not a super experienced whiskey man, but i do know i like the peat and sea, but I'm fairly averse to smoke. i like full flavor and body, but i don't like intense so much nowadays. surprised to say it, but i guess i like balance.
