Passenger side dash, speaker cover, side lid rattle and vibration noise RESOLVED

What about some rubber washers under the tweeter bolts?

 

Worth noting that I have the Kicker tweeters (Subaru upgrade)

 

Rubber washers for sure. I stopped in at the local Toyota dearship and the service guy gave me felt backed sticky tape for free

 

Got home and put it all back together and redid the foam strip along the APillar cover, put felt tape down where the tweeter bolts down, put felt tape where the light sensor clips in on the top side of cover and wrapped the light sensor plug. I noticed the sound of clipping in the sensor was strangely the same as the ticking noise we’re all hearing and the space the sensor plug fits when the cover goes back is very tight so we could be hearing it vibrate around in that space, so wrapping it with the felt tape took out any space in the fitment when the cover is in place. Cross my fingers!

 

My observations were the same. The loose blank in my case sounded the same as the rattle when installed.

 

After felt taping yesterday and the long cold drive in to work, no ticking noises.

 

Second day for me sub 45* and no ticking/rattling/squawking from the dash.

 

We may have nailed this one!!

 

OK, the rattle came back in October this year in full force, as soon as the weather cooled down. The dealer fixed it again, but this time there is no parts listed in the invoice. He said he used foam or felt tape, but didn't specify. My faith in the fix is low, but they did say if the issue returns (even out of warranty) they'd cover it, which is good, as I am at 35,950 miles as of today.

 

Yea my rattle came back this winter. My noise this time sounds like wires jiggling about. I had added the thick sticky padding material as others have done to the inside of the handled section. I'm going to disassemble it again to inspect it, then put some felt between the two pieces.

 

The problem is that many of us don't have time to deal with this crap. It's a new truck, so I'm trying to insist Toyota deal with it on their end, and indeed they are committed to doing so, thankfully. It remains to be seen if yesterday's "fix" will hold another year or not. Such an absurd amount of work is going into this issue for DIY'ers here. I only hope the drive train holds together like it did for my '99. I can deal with dash rattles in a 17 year old truck with 400k miles, but not one that is barely 2 years old.

 

Same noise started on my '18 a few months ago. I just took the a-pillar trim off for the time being since it was driving me crazy. Saw this thread week or so ago and decided to give the felt a try. Stopped in at the local Michael's craft store and bought a sheet of adhesive backed felt for like $1.04. Applied it to the tabs mentioned and no more squeak.

That being said, I think the fix was more than just the felt. After I put the panel back on I made sure the tabs engaged the designated slots in the dash. Once everything was properly positioned and secured, I notice that the gap between the trim and the speaker grill was about half of what it was before I took the panel off. So I'm thinking that the trim was installed improperly from the factory in the first place and that was applying unnecessary pressure to the tabs.

Mine had the ticking sound from the passenger pillar. Fixed with electrical tape. I have since ordered and received the felt tape used in the first post, so will replace the electrical tape soon with the fabric.

I also have a second noise I would like to bring up. This one was a buzzing sound that could only be heard while the engine was at 2000rpm and under load. So basically every time I accelerate or go up a hill. It is very loud and distracting.

Not long ago I noticed I could hear the buzz while there was a noisy bike close by. Since I then knew that just noise alone would trigger the buzz i downloaded a tone generator app on my phone and played it through the truck stereo. Found between 45 and 47hz, i could hear the buzz and could finally dial in where it is coming from without having to drive it. I only did it this morning so have not had time to fix it, but it appears to be coming from the overhead console where the dome light and sunglasses holder are.

Also found at different frequencies part of the driver door would rattle, but since i never hear this otherwise I will leave it alone for now.

I thought it was a half decent idea to use the tone generator, and it worked. May not have worked for the pillar, so not going to get them all this way, but it sure helped.

 

In summer 2018 I had placed adhesive foam rubber padding on the A pillar plastic, as many have in this thread. It turns out that didn't work.

I began hearing that stupid noise a month ago when temps dipped below 50F. This go around I opted for felt with an adhesive back. It cost all of $1.95 for a large rectangle from a crafts store. You just cut segments and trim to fit the angles. It's been quiet ever since.

I highly recommend going the adhesive felt route first.

 

Mine just started doing this. It drove me absolutely crazy today.

I'll be tackling this in the upcoming days.

 

I think i might have it figured out, will follow up in the next day or so to make sure its gone.

 

My truck has 6200mi on it and it has started to rattle pretty bad from the right front tweeter area. Did I mention I absolutely hate squeaks and rattles!? I bought my truck in July, so this is the coldest it has been since I have owned it. I received the Tesa tape from Amazon (and the Subaru tweeters as long as I am going to have it apart) and am going to try to fix it this weekend.

Pisses me off as my 2003 4Runner I bought new and traded in for this had absolutely zero rattles from day one...

 

Well the pillar squeak has completely stopped with the adhesive felt fix. Now the stupid glove box shelf is rattling. I'm going to try the same solution for this annoyance.

 

Hey dude. You have pics of what you did to resolve? I've tried about everything. Not sure I follow what you did but want to try it myself.

 

I'll pull apart my A-pillar, speaker grill, and glove box shelf and snap some photos of the adhesive felt. I'll try to do that tomorrow on my day off.
