i know right? at least we got to meet up at Rubicon trail head! I'm down for a UTC trip or something close to that for some snow before living at the beach

i will if my work lets me go when i put in my months notice jan 2nd. lol

I hope they don't but will prob plan it so i have a week to play on the beach before starting work again

 

Why is it an assumption that battery/solar power is progress?

Have you seen the size of the holes in the ground that are made by lithium mining?

Do you want to go further in to hock with China and Russia? Because that's where a majority of the raw materials come from to make solar panels.

You do realize a huge majority of the Nation's power grid comes from coal, right? So when you're charging you're "clean" electric car (essentially anywhere East of the Mississippi) you're charging it with coal power.

And as of right now, the ONLY reason electric cars, and solar energy are "affordible" is the fact that the Government is churning out subsidies to keep it afloat. Without government cheese it falls on it's face because it is fundamentally un-economically viable with available technology.

But hey, it's the "future"

 

I'm kind of torn

On one hand, electric cars do have a lot of advantages. Instant torque. If we do find a clean way to generate electricity, then it becomes cleaner transportation.

On the other, yes, we essentially do strip mine for lithium. And our energy production for them isn't clean.

I kind of want to revisit a movie I watched in high school called "the electric car." Its kind of presented as big oil killed the idea of the electric car, but had some solid arguements and ideas...
