yeah... seattle…. about 45 degrees out right now. I get the warming the can... but surprised about time between coats.

 

Yeah, that's the shitty part cause usually 4 or 5 coats is needed. If your working in a garage and can have a heater going and the garage door cracked open enough for good ventilation then you can probably get away with 30minutes between coats.

Definitely do not need to wait that long between coats. 5 mins is plenty. Especially if it’s colder out that stuff will stiffen quick.

 

I’ve never waited that long between coats on anything I’ve dipped. Wheels, emblems, my kids bike. And I’ve had perfect results.

 

I've also never had to wait that long between coats, I've also never dipped in weather colder than 65 degrees F. I've heard and read in a couple of different forums and it's even somewhere dipyourcar.com

I'd rather the guy play it safe then have a huge mess and a shitty job when done.

 

So question... I am planning on using plasti dip for the first time on a aluminum tonneau cover. It is cold here, between the 30 and 45. Do you guys think that plasti dip will stick to raw aluminum???

 

It will stick, but again the cold weather will play a huge part in the process. Try and be in an enclosed area that you can raise the temperature, but still have it well ventilated since spraying PlastiDip.

Clean your surface thoroughly with some rubbing alcohol and also heat the cans by setting them in warm water between coats.

OK GUYS - i received my DB cover yesterday and very exited with this little project now. I have a compressor (pancake) and will like to use it to plasti dipped the cover. I don't want to buy the DYC kit as is more money but since i have this compressor i will like to utilize what i have. I believe that the compressor may do a better job anyways. Now, I need to buy a gun perhaps with the right tip for the compressor and not sure what options and brands to go by. Also, i may only need a half gallon (matte black) for this project, any website/store i can purchase it at a decent price? For what i read, it seems like the paint may have to be diluted as well, is it true? Any help/feedback will be appreciated. Below is exactly the DB cover i bought as reference.

 

Go to https://www.dipyourcar.com/ and you can either email them or call them (1-855-847-5825). They will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the dip, the amount, and the spray gun. If they ask for an order number just explain that you haven't ordered yet, you just need some install and technical questions answered. They will probably recommend their spray gun since it was designed to spray the plastidip which is much thicker and has a higher viscosity than paint. As far as it connecting to your compressor, I am not sure.

 

I want to see pics of the final product to compare. I bought the lined version of the DB SE.

 

They may not have any opinion since their "experience" in based on their product and play the marketing card with me to purchase a kit from them. I may try anyways and report back here.

 

Right, I know the owner may have some experience as he has tested alot. In their QA area, I've seen them make comments on other products working with their products. So they aren't completely biased, but yeah i get what your saying.

 

Sure will!!! It may take some time until i gather the proper information to process and set up everything, plus looking for better days here in NC, is been raining like crazy.

Ok, so i got in touch with DYC and talked with Andrew. Extremely knowledgeable and very helpful in every aspect. Due to the size of my compressor (pancake) he suggested to go with the can spray method. Although is worth to try it out and see how it does at least with the smaller (middle) piece of the cover. Otherwise, they do sale guns for compressors and other products that will make the job a breeze. Im going to give it some thought and see where i land. I really will like to use my pancake thou...lol.
