Doh! Bonehead mistake, can it be easily fixed ?

So, I thought I searched and found out what type of rims were needed for my 2008 Tacoma, base model (2wd)...

I ordered 4 rims,

$124 American Racing AR172 15X7 5X4.5 S-BLK -6MM - AR1725765B

American Racing Custom Wheels AR172 Baja Satin Black Wheel (15x7"/5x114.3mm, 6mm offset)

Mechanic called today (Just after my new frame install!!!) saying the front rims are binding on the calipers...

Im sure everyone understands wheel measurements better than me, but can anyone let me know if I can add a spacer, if so what thickness and may be link me to the exact part ?

Did I totally screw this up, and need to return them ?

Afraid I will make another mistake that costs even more...

Update, I just double checked the American Racing web site, and the site says I did buy the right part... now even more confused...

I thought the 2nd gen tacoma's came with 16" wheels not 15"

 

Stock wheels are indeed 16" on 2nd Gen.

 

Well if OP bought 15" wheels then I guess that would explain why the wheels hit the caliper's on the front

 

No. Not even wheel spacers are going to help. Put them up for sale in the first gen section or return them if you can.

So its a 2008 base model, 2wd, short cab. Is that year 2nd gen ?

The OEM tires and Rims are in fact 15's

Do you know how the wheel is binding? If it is rubbing the face of the caliper a wheel spacer will fix the issue. If it is rubbing the inside of the wheel from the top or bottom of the caliper you need different wheels.

 

Im waiting for my son to make time so we can look ourselves. Between his job, my job, his school and the approching holidays, we barley have time to say hello..

One of the mechanics that didn't work on it, thought it hit on the face of the caliper.
The mechanic that did work on it has been out for personal reasons, not sure when he will be back ....

Living the dream.. lol...

American Racing said they will work with me to correct as their website says it should fit...

15" won't fit over disc brake

 

It's a 5 lug so it has 15's stock

We all assumed it was a 6 lug op.
You should be ok to fit with what you purchased.

 

Cant blame you for replacing those. Your correct, I guess they did have some 15" rims for certain Tacos. That wheel you ordered is supposed to fit. Somethings off somewhere.

 

If it is rubbing the face of the caliper it is an easy fix. Some small wheel spacers will take care of the problem. A lot of the time just the wheel offset and backspacing seem appropriate the concave of the wheel will mess it all up. It's a common issue on cars running deep/wide wheels. Good luck OP, these little issues are always a PITA.

 

YA! fir sure... Making me nuts...

Whats kicking my but, is playing with Wheel-Size.com and entering on the left the Stock OEM setup and than on the right putting in what I have now,
shows I should have MORE clearance.... Could the wheel weights used to balance the tire be enough to bind ?

 

For what it's worth, a friend of mine also had problems with a set of AR wheels that said they would fit. Ended up having to run .75 or 1in spacers in front.

 

I guess I wouldn't care much, as long as the spacer and studs were reimbursed...

I know 6J is the wheel type, and 6JJ is the one I dont have...

But is the +45 the offset ????? If not what is it ?
EDIT: Looks like 35MM from a few quick searches... Guess I have to rope the kid down for an hour to get to the bottom of this...

Calipers need another .160 and that's a "touch fit" with the pads on it now.

The pads on it now, measure .450 including the back plate of the pad.
See from another post, that new pads can be up to 11mm thick.
That's .433

Is that .433 including the back plate ? (Say it ain't so!!!)

Since my pads are not new, Im afraid to guess that the .433 is not including the back plate.
If they are NOT including the back plate, my math says,
.160 needed now + Diff of new pad vs what I have now .208 = .368 And than I need clearance. I figure, .250 should be ok
and that brings me way the hell out to .618 !

If the OVERALL pad (Including back plate) is .433 and what I have on it now is new (Could have been changed a before I bought the truck?)
with an aftermarket thick pad, than with 5/16" spacers are pretty easy to find but only give me .152 of clearance...

Poop... need advice on direction.
1/2 or 1" spacer, bite the bullet and change studs
or
Dude, your way over thinking it and 5/16" sounds fine!

 

If they don't fit but are supposed to, I'd send them back.
