I bought my 2016 off-road used with 34,000 miles on it and it had a trashbag in the bed of the truck with the factory intake in it. someone had removed the factory intake off of the truck and replaced it with aftermarket.when sitting in my parking space at home if I would move my steering wheel very slightly left and right repeatedly I could hear a noise. Kind of a knocking sound.Sorry for 31,000 this should not be going on.I took it back to the dealership to explain the noise I was hearing and they told me my throttle body was making the noise which is connected to the intake due to it was working harder.i called bullshit on this,I went home pulled aftermarket intake off the truck pulled the factory intake out of the trash bag and put it back on,and no noise.I was blown away they were right, kind of gave me faith in them. anyway I swear the truck has more power so I got to doing a little research and the Tacoma pulls COLD air in from the wheel well but the after market pulls WARM air from the engine bay.cold air gives you more power,I'm no genius by any means but a lot of very smart people designed these trucks. So I guess I'll be putting the aftermarket intake in the trash bag now.lol

Just saying but because the aftermarket intakes remove the resonator, then any time the truck surges at idle you hear the sound of the air being forced through the plastic/metal tube

I replaced the resonator and plastic tube on my TRD cold air intake with a insulated silicone tube because my cold air wasn’t cold enough and it gives the haters more to hate.

Do you think that might collapse at WOT or with a dirty air filter? Looks good BTW, i’m just curious because i’ve used hose like that on intercoolers and it’s not too thick/stiff.

@Ronzio -- how much did it change the sound removing the TRD resonator?

    Thx.

I suppose it’s possible but not likely. I’ve had no issues since installation 6 months and 10k miles ago.

I’d say the sound has doubled but only at WOT. Other than that it sounds the same at any other throttle position.

Thanks Ronzio. I have a TRD intake waiting for Santa's delivery. I was thinking about doing something similar -- removing the resonator box from the tubing.

Not sure what kind of aftermarket intake it is as I looked everywhere on it and it had no markings.also the aftermarket was made from metal which heats up more than the factory which is plastic making the air even warmer.was thinking about selling it real cheap but I don't have the heart to have someone else have the same problem as I had.the aftermarket was just a straight pipe with a cone filter.can tell it is a little quieter with factory intake because of the resonator which to me is the only downfall.

Great idea! Which silicon tube is that?

Any unshielded/isolated sucky thing will experience hestsoak. Intake, especially on a truck is a waste of money, but it’s not my money soo...

High performance products (HPS 57-1600) it fits the stock air box perfectly....requires minor cutting to fit the TRD CAI.
