When trying to engage rear diff lock, the light blinks and goes off. 4 lo. Tried turning and everything I read. However, the rear diff is engage in 4 high and 4 lo with the light not on. Disengages when put back in 2 high. Anyone have a clue what's going on. Again, when ever I put in 4 high or 4 low, the rear diff is locked without press the diff lock button. It disengages when in 2wd. The light will blink when I press the button but doesn't show engaged. Thanks for any input

It will only engage in the arc of a turn or with one wheel spinning. The differential must be in operation for the lock to align and engage. Turn your steering wheel slightly if on dry pavement and it will lock. If you are stuck, the spinning wheel will cause the same effect.

If it is the red diff-lock light we are discussing (red axle icon with an “X” in the center), I would suspect you maybe got water in your roof liner or the button is jammed.

The diff is lockable only in 4lo. It should disengage for 4Hi and 2WD.

Can you turn off and on the red locker light by pressing the button in 4Lo or is it always on?

Yeah weird. I put In 4 low, hit the locker button and flashes about 5 seconds then goes off. Light never stays on but whether in 4 hi or lo, with the wheels turned and backing up, i can tell it is locked. The inside wheel is in a bind on the concrete. Put in 2wd and no binding

But the rear end is locked. Stays locked when select knob is in 4 hi or 4 low. Whether I press the locker button or not

Assuming you are not new to 4WD, and you understand there will be wheel-scrubbing between the front and back wheels when turning on dry pavement, it sounds like maybe your ELocker wiring harness is maybe damaged or shorted.

Do you wheel it much? Could you have done some damage?

Very familiar with 4x4, positive traction and lockers . Haven't been offloading other than pulling off the side of the road to park while hunting. Very unlikely damage to system. Still under warranty so will take it in after hunting season to get looked at. Just wondering if anyone had the same isuue

If the red light doesn't stay on, it's not locked. There is a lag after pressing the button before it locks. But if it flashes and then turns off, the rear locker failed to engage. It sounds like you're mistaking the feeling of the rear axle being locked with the feeling of being in 4x4.

Could be possible but when backing up with the wheel turned all the way, the rear wheel sounds like it is trying to turn same speed as other rear tire. Like backing up an atv with wheel turned. You can hear the tire eating into the concrete. Also have to give it extra gas to move It was at night and I had no help. I'll have to jack one side up and check it when I get a day off

I don't know what to tell you. Maybe it's time to find a mud hole or snowy forest road and do some real testing. :mudding:

I tested my locker in the snow. I got it stuck, then I made my wife get out and tell me if both rear wheels were spinning together. Then I dug myself out with a shovel. :D

That’s not the rear end, it’s the transfer case binding because you’re turning in 4wd on dry pavement... not smart.

Not being a smart a$$ by no means, but what is the difference driving on pavement in 4x4 and an all wheel drive car, should not hurt as long as the rear diff isn't locked

Huge difference. AWD has a viscous coupling to enable AWD to operate on pavement and not grenade the drive train. 4x4 transfer case doesn’t allow for the slippage to occur and will grenade after a time when operated on dry pavement.

the front axle makes a larger circle than the rear. You end up with binding because the gears will make the front and rear turn the same speed. The binding puts quite a bit of strain on the transfer case and CV joints, and/or will cause some tire scrubbing.

With AWD there is some viscus or clutch pack coupling that allows for some slippage between the front and rear axles.

cruising down the highway with mild bends it's not an issue, any tight maneuvering through should be avoided.
