Should be there myself tomorrow, wel at least the dunes. Hoping the hot springs are not nuts this weekend or it’ll be the fastest trip to dv, I’ve ever done and I’ll leave and go somehwere else.

Last time i was there, it was crazy! Cant imagine it being to bust this time of year.

Christmas and New Years is a cluster. If you enjoy the crowds, fireworks, candle lanterns, and less than considerate humans it's a good time. I'll be heading out after new year's.

I hate fireworks ... it’s bad enough in my hometown on New Year’s Eve. Sounds like I should wait.

If you can go after new year's it will calm down. Or camp in the Valley but not at the springs.

Depending on timing and route, I could run SV south to north, and if the Springs are OK, stop there or just have a quick soak. Then continue on to Eureka Dunes. I’m going with a friend who’s never been to either place.

You can also camp at the natural upper springs on the way to Steel Pass.

Very cool. Do you have a planned route? Please share some pics here too.
Just a heads up here Commiefornia I don't think you can have the firearm in the center console with a loaded mag in the cab. You don't need any trouble with our stupid laws. We aren't allowed to have fun here.:laser:

Oh you can have a firearm in the center console with a loaded mag - you just have to have a CA CCW and no passengers in the car. :( The real trick is that many folks think they are okay going to DV with their CA CCW and then they go to Rhyolite and think they are in CA - Nope. NV and a CA CCW is worthless in NV.

Where in the PC does it say about no passengers in the car if you have CCW and gun in the console? Not trying to argue, just seeking facts.

Will the DV backcountry be off limits if the park is closed due to government shutdown? :) Might be a good time to go!

Last time, parks were closed and semi-barricaded by rangers.

    Seriously? Hmmmm...
I read today that national parks would remain open, just not staffed...
Where / when was dv semi- barricaded?
Planning to be there next week...

Idk where, news showed various closures. IIrc, they used safety as their reasoning.

The Rangers at Joshua Tree National Park closes and locks all gates, it's what they did during the last 2 shutdowns..

They cannot close off the 190 as it is a highway which connects CA and NV. Most of the other roads can't be physically closed either since they don't have gates in DV. Joshua Tree is much smaller and easier to manage by closures.

Read the news and park updates online. National parks will be remain open, but all visitor centers, bathrooms, facilities are to be closed. Any facility that closes for the night will remain closed for the shutdown (for example historic buildings). Don’t know what it means for campgrounds.

This is different than previous shutdowns. Your mileage may vary.
