No guns, really? Do they search vehicles? I have no problems with locking my gun up (gun lock and in a locked container, inside the cab and out of sight) before entering reservation land. No alcohol is not an issue.

I don't care too much for the "no guns allowed" law either, but I also don't want to get caught on reservation land breaking their laws.

If I read the info correctly, the permit is required for each vehicle(correct me if I’m wrong). I find it better to obey these types of rules then to try to ask for forgiveness. Let’s get the details about what is actually required, once we figure that out each one can make a decision weather or not they want to participate.

Yeah, I'm not wanting to break reservation laws, that's why I asked about the possibility of locking the gun up instead of just not bringing it. I'm not looking to go shooting on this trip or anything but I'd still like to have my pistol with me. If it comes down to it, I'll leave it behind or split off before entering reservation land.

Yeah you dont want to mess around on the reservation. With it being a sovereign nation things can get tricky quick. I got a speeding ticket on the rez once and they impounded my truck. It took almost a month to get it back.
I really want to go and I'm trying to see what strings I can pull to make that happen. Damn kids birthdays always happening when the cool stuff is going on. :bananadead:

Rez doesn't start until leg 8 right? And we are only going to 5? I'm confused

Yeah, I was just reading that on the AZBDR FAQ page.

Do I need permits for traveling on the Navajo Land?
Yes, when riding through Navajo Nation (Section 8) you MUST obtain a pass to ride and camp in Navajo Nation. Camping and riding permits are $12 each per person (cash only). They can be purchased at the small round building at the junction of Hwy 64 and 89 in Cameron. Don't plan on entering these lands after dark after the permit office is closed. Cameron Visitor Center: P.O. Box 459, Cameron, AZ 86020 tel : 928.679.2303, fax:928.679.2017, email: lcr@navajonationparks.org.

Please also note, no alcohol or firearms are allowed on Navajo land, and you must camp in designated areas only.

So for our proposed trip we shouldn't have to worry about all that right ?

That's my thought unless there is another reservation with similar laws. San Carlos Reservation looks close to stage 5 but I don't know if the trail crosses reservation land.

I haven't caught up on this entire thread yet but Aztec peak is right next to the section between Globe and Young. You would have to backtrack or skip a section but it is worth the trip to the top. The falls are really cool, views from the top are incredible and there are a bunch of great camping sites. Its about 30 miles down the 288 from the turn off on Cherry Creek rd that the AZBDR runs

I’ve heard of it, I’d say if we are making good time and all are up for it, let’s do this!

The route the BDR takes passes through the valleys seen in the pic above.

Who in the group of confirmed attendees is into photography? Someone needs to document this trip on film.

Agreed, no reason to limit this to Tacos only. As long as the vehicle is capable of doing the trail, then come along!
